    • By : Aderik / Culwich366 / AoW Dark Forests DF 1- 4 DF 5 - 7 DF 7 - 9 DF 10 Defeating a Dark Forest Depending on the experience of your knight, your troops will be hit a certain number of times, till either you or they are defeated. The more experienced your knight is, the fewer rounds will be needed to defeat a dark forest. The strength of your own troops has less meaning than your knight's experience. Do not send large numbers of strong units against low level dark forests, especially not catapults. For minimal losses, use layered attacks. Note however, that the order in which your layered troops fight is quite possible random, or at least dependent on the number of different types of troops defending. The more layered single troops you include, the more of them will get a chance to fight, and reduce the remaining troops for the bulk of your force to defeat.
    • Various Information DF 1- 4 DF 5 - 7 DF 7 - 9 DF 10 ■ Level 1-10 bogs randomly become level 1-10 dark forests. ■ Dark forests (and bogs) change about every six hours. It takes some time for the changeover to complete for all the provinces in the domain. During this time, dark forests may not appear to be what they show on the map. If the dark forest in question is becoming a bog, you will get the "cannot perform action" message. Consider this message as a warning that dark forests are in the midst of a changeover. ■ Dark forests can be scouted and they can be attacked. ■ If a dark forest wins a battle, it still remains where it is. ( max 10 rounds of battle) ■ The troops that were killed will not return.(duh) ■ Each time a dark forest is defeated, it disappears. ■ Once in a while (Every 6 hours), new dark forests reappear in new places all over the domain , to replace those that have been defeated. ■ Be careful if you hit dark forests during this period of regeneration, as they may regenerate as a higher level than before. ■ An error message saying "Cannot perform this action on target location" is a sign of this regeneration being in progress. ■ If you do not get a report from attacking a dark forest, the forest most probably isn't there anymore, but has reverted back to a bog. ■ Since defeated forests disappear, you can defeat any one dark forest only once. ■Dark Forests make no use of Range and Speed whatsoever. However the 3 base battle stats that are used: LIfe, Defense, Attack, can be enhanced via TR. You can also equip the banner " Bonus vs Dark Forest. It enhances the 3 stats on the troops you use to defeat the DF. Additionally you want to BOOST the 3 stats in your TR. So equip in your TR, as much LIFE and DEFENSE and ATTACK . You also want to equip Chance to find items (General stat) or the Chance to find items in Dark Forests ( Specific stat). If you are in a hurry, applying a March Speed Card helps to cut march times to DF's. This preset as described above is now an ideal Dark Forest Preset.
    • ■Lower tier units suffer less losses than higher tier units (as well as being more efficient use of resources) Basicly you want to use MM as they are cheap and easy to replace. BUT MM also march slow. If you are willing to take some (more expensive) losses and you want to get as much DF's as possible then you can use waves of scouts, Light Cav, and Hcav instead of Militiamen. ■ Cavalry and Heavy cavalry are also efficient against them, as well as having a faster marching speed. Scouts as well. ■Dark Forests are much more random than the normal combat system. Battle is limited to 10 rounds ■ As you can see on the various screenshots of DF lvl 9 & 10 attacks in this tutorial, defeating them has a normal chance of getting items. It's a myth so so to speak that when you defeat them , that you get automatically an epic or wondrous item. You also don't get automatically better items when defeating a lvl 10 or 9. Defeating these is also not a guarantee for a Hero. ■Like wildernesses, they do not immediately re-spawn, so a two wave hit could be used. But you would want to get it over with as quick as possible and get as many DF's as you can, then use Lcav. They are easy and cheap to replace and you can consider them as MM on a horse. ■ Dark forests can be defeated with MM rainbow style untill lvl 10, as long as you have the Auras to increase MM, or have TR card march Increase, and Bonus vs Dark Forests. the higher the better. In this guide i used for example : 75% Marchsize & 180% bonus vs DF. There will be players with lower values and of course higher values in TR cards. * Since my cards have upgraded over time, there will be different numbers. In the process of this tutorial, things evolve and different troops have been used for attacking the Dark Forests. ■ Have not seen a benefit of sacrificing troops via Fey city nor the sac stats being more effective in order to defeat DF troops easier. ■ Attacking DF's with the new troops as the main force, like executioner, siegewall, flame archers etc, costly and no huge benefits. You can use them in the rainbow setup, but not as the main troop.( See lvl 10 DF battle reports) AGAIN.. SPEED AND RANGE DO NOT TAKE PART IN DARK FOREST BATTLES. Experience Points (XP) When attacking Dark Forests , results are better with a higher knight's experience level. And each time you defeat a dark forest successfully , your knight will gain more Experience Points: Lvl 1 Dark Forest: +3,000 XP Lvl 2 Dark Forest: +6,000 XP Lvl 3 Dark Forest: +12,000 XP Lvl 4 Dark Forest: +24,000 XP Lvl l5 Dark Forest: +48,000 XP Lvl 6 Dark Forest: +96,000 XP Lvl 7 Dark Forest: +192,000 XP Lvl 8 Dark Forest: +384,000 XP Lvl 9 Dark Forest: +768,000 XP Lvl 10 Dark Forest: +1,536,000 XP Refresh after defeating a dark forest in order to be able to assign these new experience points.
    • Gold You will collect a fixed amount of gold from defeating a dark forest: Lv 1 Dark Forest: 1,150 gold Lv 2 Dark Forest: 2,300 gold Lv 3 Dark Forest: 4,600 gold Lv 4 Dark Forest: 9,200 gold Lv 5 Dark Forest: 18,400 gold Lv 6 Dark Forest: 36,800 gold Lv 7 Dark Forest: 73,600 gold Lv 8 Dark Forest: 147,200 gold Lv 9 Dark Forest: 294,400 gold Lv 10 Dark Forest: 588,800 gold ■ You may find additional goodies in the dark Forests, that can be used in the fey Spire for crafting items OR that can be used straight away , as is. Like reinforced bags, barkskin etc. Also you will find the seals needed for city 7 & 8. Your gain could be like the example below: In battle, your forces found a Keterstone x 4 In battle, your forces found a Renaming Celebration x 4 In battle, your forces found a Potion of Mist x 3 In battle, your forces found a Flax Wing x 8 In battle, your forces found a Tiferstone x 4 In battle, your forces found a Lodestone x 11 In battle, your forces found a Animal Hide x 4 In battle, your forces found a Bloodstone x 9 In battle, your forces found a 100,000 Stone x 5 In battle, your forces found a 100,000 Wood x 3 In battle, your forces found a Ohrstone x 6 In battle, your forces found a 100,000 Ore x 2 In battle, your forces found a Green Griffin Wings x 1 In battle, your forces found a Merlin's Seal x 1 In battle, your forces found a Aetherseal x 3 In battle, your forces found a Barkskin x 3 In battle, your forces found a Protection Stone x 1 In battle, your forces found a Guinevere's Favor x 1 In battle, your forces found a Portal of Refuge x 1 In battle, your forces found a Sturdy Reinforced Bags x 1 In battle, your forces found a Lesser Protection Stone x 2

    • Defeating a Level 1 Dark Forest Since there is only one type of troops defending a level 1 Dark Forest, there are several known safe ways of defeating them. It is safe to assume that 1 single cavalry will always fight and die first. It is also safe to assume that archers will perform well on attacking Wanderers of Din, a melee unit. The following is the "cheapest" setup, for short distances (only the militiaman will die): · 1 militiaman · 10k archers (a good knight requires fewer, a bad knight more) The following is the "fastest" setup, for long distances (only the cavalry will die): · 1 cavalry · 120k scouts (a good knight requires fewer, a bad knight more) Full Rally of Lcav for speed · 150k or 200k Lcav Full rally of MM · 150k or 200k MM
    • Defeating a Level 2 Dark Forest The strongest unit defending a level 2 forest is the Blade of Netzekt, a mounted unit. It is thus assumed that pikemen will perform well on attacking a level 2 dark forest. However, the outcome is largely dependent on the ratio between Wanderers and Blades of Netzekt. When attacking a level 2 dark forest, use an experienced knight. A rather safe setup of troops is: · 1 supply troop · 1 scout · 1 pikeman · 1 swordsman · 1 archer · 1 cavalry · 150k, or maximum amount of militiamen Sometimes you will lose only 2 or 3 single troops, sometimes 1 or 2 singles and a few militiamen as well. Full Rally of Lcav for speed · 150k or 200k Lcav Full rally of MM · 150k or 200k MM
    • Defeating a Level 3 Dark Forest The strongest unit defending a level 3 forest is the Arm of Gevrah, a ranged unit. It is thus assumed that cavalry will perform well on attacking a level 3 dark forest. However, the outcome is largely dependent on the ratio between Wanderers, Blades and Arms of Gevrah. When attacking a level 3 dark forest, use your most experienced knight. A rather safe setup of troops is: · 1 supply troop · 1 scout · 1 pikeman · 1 swordsman · 1 archer · 1 cavalry · 1 heavy cavalry · 1 supply wagon · 150k, or maximum amount of militiamen You will lose a few single troops, and most likely a few hundred militiamen. If you scout the level 3 forest first, and find a large number of Arms of Gevrah, you can try with this setup as well: · 1 supply troop · 1 militiaman · 1 scout · 1 pikeman · 1 swordsman · 1 archer · 1 heavy cavalry · 1 supply wagon · 150k, or maximum amount of cavalry Full Rally of Lcav for speed · 150k or 200k Lcav Full rally of MM · 150k or 200k MM Full Rally of scouts for speed · 150k or 200k scouts ( yes you can do lower)
    • Defeating a Level 4 Dark Forest The strongest unit defending a level 4 forest is the Priest of Yeshod, a specialist unit. Since we do not know what special forces they possess, it is unknown which troops perform best against them. Besides, the outcome would be largely dependent on the ratio between Wanderers, Blades, Arms and Priests of Yeshod. When attacking a level 4 dark forest, always use your most experienced knight. A rather safe setup of troops is: · 1 supply troop · 1 scout · 1 pikeman · 1 swordsman · 1 archer · 1 cavalry · 1 heavy cavalry · 1 supply wagon · 1 ballista · 1 battering ram · 150k, or maximum amount of militiamen Full rally of MM · 150k or 200k MM You will lose several single troops, the more the better. Depending on how many single troops you lost, you will also lose some 1-10k militiamen.
    • Defeating a Level 5 Dark Forest The strongest unit you might find defending a level 5 forest is the Sahareen Hound, a mounted unit. It can thus be assumed that pikemen will perform well on attacking a level 5 dark forest. However, the outcome would be largely dependent on the ratio between Wanderers, Blades, Arms, Priests and Hounds. I use also this for lvl 5 DF · 1 supply troop · 1 scout · 1 pikeman · 1 swordsman · 1 archer · 1 cavalry · 1 heavy cavalry · 1 supply wagon · 1 ballista · 1 battering ram · 150k, or maximum amount of militiamen Full rally of MM · 150k or 200k MM
    • Defeating a Level 6 Dark Forest The strongest unit you might find defending a level 6 forest is the Remez Banshee, a ranged unit. It can thus be assumed that cavalry and pikemen will perform well on attacking a level 6 dark forest. Scout before you do anything, and try to figure out what to do based on all the above… The outcome would be largely dependent on the ratio between Wanderers, Blades, Arms, Priests, Hounds and Banshees. I also use this for lvl 6 · 1 supply troop · 1 scout · 1 pikeman · 1 swordsman · 1 archer · 1 cavalry · 1 heavy cavalry · 1 supply wagon · 1 ballista · 1 battering ram · 150k, or maximum amount of militiamen Full rally of MM · 150k or 200k MM
    • Defeating a Level 7 Dark Forest The strongest unit you might find defending a level 7 forest is the Son of Ysbadden, a melee unit. It can thus be assumed that archers and pikemen will perform well on attacking a level 7 dark forest. Scout before you do anything, and try to figure out what to do based on all the above… The outcome would be largely dependent on the ratio between Wanderers, Blades, Arms, Priests, Hounds, Banshees and Sons. I still use this for lvl 7, sometimes needs 2 waves , but with TR card ( bonus vs Dark Forests) it is mostly defeated in 1 time · 1 supply troop · 1 scout · 1 pikeman · 1 swordsman · 1 archer · 1 cavalry · 1 heavy cavalry · 1 supply wagon · 1 ballista · 1 battering ram · 200k, or maximum amount of militiamen
    • Defeating a Level 8 Dark Forest The strongest unit you might find defending a level 8 forest is the Dark Rider, a mounted unit. It can thus be assumed that pikemen and archers will perform well on attacking a level 8 dark forest. Scout before you do anything, and try to figure out what to do based on all the above… The outcome would be largely dependent on the ratio between Wanderers, Blades, Arms, Priests, Hounds, Banshees, Sons and Riders. You may add to the rainbow the following troops if available: · 1 Bloodthorn · 1 Executioner · 1 Siege Wall This is with rainbow attack, 1 of each unit + full MM rally of almost 250k MM on a lvl 8 + TR card Bonus against Dark Forest. This would work for DF lvl 7 as well ;)
    • Defeating a Level 9 Dark Forest The strongest unit you might find defending a level 9 forest is the Sidhe Scorpion, a ranged unit. Scout before you do anything, and try to figure out what to do based on all the above… The outcome would be largely dependent on the ratio between Wanderers, Blades, Arms, Priests, Hounds, Banshees, Sons, Riders and Scorpions You may add to the rainbow the following troops if available: · 1 Bloodthorn · 1 Executioner · 1 Siege Wall Note: This was a rainbow attack with march increase card + tr card bonus vs DF as seen here in the thread
    • Attack with 88% TR March size / 180% TR bonus vs DF / full MM + 1 of each unit
    • Defeating a Level 9 Dark Forest with ASCENDED lvl 12 CITY/RP + 171% TR marchsize + 396% Bonus vs Darkforest
    • Defeating a Level 9 Dark Forest with ASCENDED lvl 12 CITY/RP +full rainbow + 396% Bonus vs Darkforest
    • Defeating a Level 10 Dark Forest The strongest unit you might find defending a level 10 forest is the Sidhe Templar, a strong melee unit. Scout before you do anything, and try to figure out what to do based on all the above… The outcome would be largely dependent on the ratio between Wanderers, Blades, Arms, Priests, Hounds, Banshees, Sons, Riders, Scorpions and Templar's. You may add to the rainbow the following troops if available: · 1 Bloodthorn · 1 Executioner · 1 Siege Wall
    • Defeating a Level 10 Dark Forest with ASCENDED lvl 12 CITY/RP + 147% TR marchsize + 312% Bonus vs Darkforest + 1690% DEFENSE active in TR
    • Defeating a Level 10 Dark Forest with ASCENDED lvl 12 CITY/RP + 149% TR marchsize + 492% Bonus vs Darkforest active in TR
    • Defeating LvL 10 DF, with Lcav + 1 scout + 1 hcav Defeating lvl 10 df with flame archers ( costly?but possible) pic courtesy Bigooyton
    • TROUBLESHOOTING: Green map : Issues with the map often occur as a result of excessive calls to the map function in a short period, resulting in the server to stop updating the map. bot functions that call the map function are search and dark forest search. In particular, the dark forest search re-performs a search when 1) the dark forest count reaches zero, 2) a refresh occurs in the middle of a search, or 3) after the reset search interval elapses. With everyone hitting dark forests, it would not be surprising for the dark forest count to quickly go to zero. In such circumstances, leaving the auto dark forest off for a while will help fix map issues. When Dark Forests are not being attacked: Here are some typical things people forget to check when their Dark Forests aren't marching as they think they should: 1. Are there any DF's available currently? They only spawn every 6 hours, so it could be that there are none available at the moment. Do a search using the Bot search function to find out if there are any DF's on the map. 2. Do you have enough troops in your city to fill your marches? Troops are killed with each DF attack, so it could be your troop count has been depleted and you need to send more to replenish your troop count. Also, you might have inadvertently set your auto-reassign to move your DF'ing troops out of your city, check your auto-reassign setup. 3. Do you have knights in your city? You might have inadvertently marched your knights out of your city, when reassigning troops. Check to see that you have knights. 4. Are your knights below the maximum combat level (or above the minimum) you have set in Dark Forest options? If you have assigned all your knights' experience points, be sure to change your maximum combat skill accordingly. And if you have finished upgrading your knights to maximum combat skill and have sent new knights to your city, be sure you change the minimum combat level setting. 5. Is your rally point march size big enough to accommodate the troop waves you have set up? You might have had Throne Room march size equipped when you set up your troop counts, and unequipped it since then. Make sure your troop counts don't exceed your maximum march size. 6. Have you reached the aetherstone cap you have set in Dark Forest options? If you have more aetherstone in your city than the cap you have set, your auto DF won't work. Double-check also that you have entered for instance 2000000 and not 200000. ( 999999 the max is perfect)
    • To conclude : You have been seeing now examples of how you can defeat dark forests trough all levels. YOU decide what you want to use, whether that is MM or Lcav or scouts or rainbow style waves. This is just to help you on your way and give you some ideas and guidance. Remember due to to the way Dark forests are setup, there will always be losses Happy hunting :) Thanks to F89, Ida and all others who have uploaded various pics via imgur to to the net.
