How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts
1. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
2. Relationship between our media products. To create a relationship and link between my products I decided to use synergy. The synergy runs largely between my 3 products. Synergy is the coming together or cross promotion between more than one industry for a mutual benefit. Having a music video, would need other forms to help advertise and boost the popularity of the products. My products contain various instances when synergy is used such as having the male artist the focal point of each product. This allows the artists products to be linked with each other through the ancillary texts, therefore increasing popularity and the artist becoming easily acknowledged. Between the main and ancillary products, we have continued to keep the appearance, fonts and colour scheme the same. This allows all the texts to be interlinked, and when one is identified, it can be easily traced back to the other products and vice versa. With the advert and Digipak cover, I wanted to enforce the idea of ‘flow’, as the name of the featured song is let me flow. I used different pictures and designs to create the ‘flow’ effect and used them in each product to create the synergy between my products.
3. Relationship between our media products continued. Synergy is present in many forms between my ancillary texts. The main way synergy is used between my products is the 3 colour streaks which is present throughout my the texts. I wanted the streaks to have connotations of flow and a link, therefore I included the streaks in all my products. This will allow my products to be identified easily and enforce the link between the products. Advert Moreover, I used the ‘Handwriting’ font in order to reinforce his name, Concept. Many artists in the rap genre refer to having a pen and a pad, the this font is ideal to help enforce that idea. I chose to use the same font in each of my texts in order to create a brand name and a brand awareness for my artist. This means that the audience will be able to identify what and who the font is representing while also establishing the link between the texts. I decided to preserve the format of the texts such as having the font in bold format and the tilt. This will create the solid bond between the texts and associate the artist with current and future projects. Furthermore, the font also creates a link with the ancillary texts and the main product. In our video, we placed various scenes which had graffiti as the focal point thus relating to the ‘handwriting’ effect of the font we used. Front Cover Back Cover
4. Relationship between our media products continued. As my products represent the rap genre, I wanted to incorporate designs associated with the genre as well as adding others design to emphasis the different aspects of the genre. The synergy is evident throughout all my products, using graffiti to emphasis the genre. On my ancillary texts, I added graffiti to the banner where the name of the album is shown. This was done as the graffiti has connotations of the rap genre, even though the others designs challenged the conventional covers, the graffiti helped create the effect of a rap related product. This is then linked to our music video as most of our scenes contain graffiti, connoting urban surroundings and deprived living. I think I used synergy effectively as my main product and the ancillary all are connected in some way. This is useful as when a the advert is seen by the consumers, the album would then be recognised in shops or online.
5. How effective is the colour and iconography of theproducts? My magazine advert and CD digipak greatly challenged the conventions of the rap genre. I felt the typical hostile and aggressive look did not suit the rap style of our artist as his lyrics are more than just about a violent lifestyle and constant violent behaviour. The props normally used help emphasis the wealth and high status of the artist. As our artists name is Concept, I decided to play around and get product which relates to his name and to his music. When writing songs, artist base their lyrics around an idea or a concept. To push this idea through, I tried to utilise the note pad background, the clouds and the bird to link his name and his lyrics The pictures and designs throughout my products was used to enforce the idea of a brighter life for rappers. The reading of the image is the key part of my advert. The body language of my artist is used to give the idea that he is looking forward and wanting a better life as well as showing the audience he is not all about fame and fortune and that he is actually all about making music.
