Question one(reload)
1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. In our film sequence, one of our main conventions we wanted to
portray onto the screen was ‘locations’ which are commonly used in
horrors. To achieve this, we used in our second scene located in Carr St
fitted the ‘abandon houses’ convention, as the houses are rundown and
boarded up. We also tried another location for the final scene to add
more ‘location’ mise en scene into our sequence, and decided the
‘graveyard’ convention in which we located at Stranton Cemetary.
3. We decided that our ‘clothing’ in mise en scene would be
casual, clothing items such as ‘converses’ which are seen
in all of the scenes of our film sequence, gave us that
stereotypical ‘teenage’ look, as well as the color cartoon
hoodie in the library scene, which leads the audience to
believe the story in revolved around the age of
teenagers, so we followed the convention of a ‘teen
terror’ film.
For the sub-genre, we decided on a ‘gothic horror’ rather
than a ‘psychological horror’ as the characters often wore
‘dark clothing’ such as the pink and black checkered coat
in the second and final scene, as well as the ‘victim’ wear
black Victorian alike blouse in the final scene when she is
revealed. Using the lighting, we tried to hide the ‘victims’
face as much as possible, showing only her face with a
mutual expression.
4. Through out our film sequence, in total we chosen four places to film. One of
the movies, we based this on was ‘The ward’ in which the scene opens up to a
variety of different hallways, using a variety of different cinematography shots
such as ‘long shot’ which is commonly used in horrors to establish the
whereabouts and create tension.
5. For sound, we didn’t want dialogue as we wanted
our music and sound effect to bring tension to
the audience, as they wouldn’t be sure about
what is going on, apart from through the body
language of the characters. This was inspired by
‘Saw 4’ in which it contained two
character, which using only sound effects of
‘chains’ and and the body language of the
frightened woman brings audiences ‘on the edge
of their seat’.
