  • What a Preliminary Task Is.A preliminary task is a task you do before creating your openingsequence. This is an opportunity to practise different camera shots andplan out how your preliminary task will go.
  • An example of a good preliminary task… think this was a good preliminary, because they used transitions, had a goodrange of angles and shots, and it was edited together very well. They also useda really cool effect on the credits. The only criticism I have about this preliminary task, is that not all of thecamera movement was smooth. A cool credit effect.

  • My rating.I would give this preliminary a 3, because it had nearly all ofthe crucial elements that are essential for making a goodpreliminary task. They aren’t a level 4, because camera movements were attimes shaky, and they could’ve used more transitionsinstead of just one to make the overall preliminary better.
  • An example of a bad preliminary task… started off well, with a range of shots, and they used zoom out and had verysteady camera control
  • An example of a bad preliminary task…The range of camera shots ended there, and for the majority of the restof the preliminary task, the shot remained the same. There wasn’tmuch camera movement, and errors in continuity.
  • An example of a bad preliminary task…
  • My rating.I would rate this preliminary task a level 2, as they didn’thave a good enough range of shots. To improve, they could’ve had the character dancing, andthey could’ve shown this from different angles, instead ofkeeping one constant head on view of this. Also, theycould’ve shown the judges expressions from the characterspoint of view, as this would help them have a wider range ofshots. The content was good, but because of two continuity errors, this lowered the quality of what they were showing.
  • What I have learned. From watching these preliminary’s I know what to do andwhat not to do. I now know how important a range of shotsis, as they help to keep pace and without them, thepreliminary can be quite boring to watch. Also, I know that I should include a variety of angles tomake it more interesting to watch overall.
