Proposed Friend-of-a-Friend/Social Network Analysis Pilot from the Collaboration Expedition Workshop at NSF, July 18, 2006, Open Collaboration: Networking Wiki Information Technology for Information Sharing and Knowledge Management See http://colab.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl? ExpeditionWorkshop/OpenCollaboration_NetworkingWikiInformationTechnology_2006 _07_18 and http://colab.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl? ExpeditionWorkshop/OpenCollaboration_NetworkingWikiInformationTechnology_2006 _07_18#nid36GJ Conference Calls on August 4th and 11th, 1-3 p.m. EST Based on the collective feedback, we were thinking of just building out some templates within the SWIM wiki and a small set of automated e-mails. We could start with a small set or seed of people and ask them to describe who they know that is using wikis or blogs and then also if they would like to send a request to them to ask the same question. I think we can keep it fairly simple, however I would presume that it wouldn't take many "degrees of separation" or iterations for the network to build up. These are some things that come to mind to me as being important: 1. Ensure that the people feel they are working within a network of trust, confidentiality and/or authority. 2. Keep it simple and intuitive and relevant. 3. Determine what the incentives are to the recipient for participating (e.g. helping "the cause", whatever that might be) 2
  3. 3. 4. Summer Collaborative Expedition Workshop Series at NSF, July 18th and August 15th at NSF Greetings: The Proceedings of the July 18, 2006, Collaborative Expedition Workshop #52, at NSF, Open Collaboration: Networking Wiki Information Technology are available at http://colab.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl? ExpeditionWorkshop/OpenCollaboration_NetworkingWikiInformationTechnology_2006 _07_18 The work of the proposed Geospatial Ontology CoP from the June 20-22nd Workshop is continuing at http://colab.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl? SICoP/GSOCoPConferenceCall_2006_07_21 We are pleased to invite you to the final Summer Collaborative Expedition Workshop Series at NSF as follows: August 15, 2006 at NSF - Open Collaboration: Networking Semantic Interoperability Across Distributed Organizations and Their Ontologies http://colab.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl? 4. 4. 5. Summary Report for the Architecture and Infrastructure and Best Practice Committees, August 17, 2006, and August 21, Respectively August 21st, Best Practices Committee Meeting at NSF (Ballston Metro), 1-3 p.m., Conference Room 110 (just left of the badging desk – no badges required unless you want to visit other NSF areas). See http://colab.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?BestPracticesCommittee#nid3642 Six Reasons for Networking EA and KM Enterprise Architecture Knowledge Management Best Practice Examples 1. FEA Reference Models: Use Taxonomies GSA REA-RM Ontologies Essentially a Taxonomy for Model-Driven EA 2. Data Reference Model Uses Taxonomies SICoP Knowledge 2.0: Specifies Use of Reference Model=DRM Taxonomies 2.0+ Semantic Metadata 3. New Federal Transition Uses Subject Matter Knowledge Base of EA-KM Framework and A-300s Expertise CoP Activities in the Involves Subject Matter COLAB Wiki Expertise 4. Some agencies use EA to KM needs EA help to do FAA sell KM A-300s 5. Some of the leading EAs KMers are Information Mike Daconta, Pat Heinig, are KMers Architects Con Kenny, Rick Murphy, Roy Roebuck, etc. 6.
