Published on

This presentation focuses on high-performance parametric computing for structural mechanics simulations! It is part of a series of 4 presentations in which - by means of real-world customer examples - we want to share with you some benefits of HPC and performance data as well as some background articles.

For convenience, we’ve split them up by major solution areas:
1: High-Performance Parallel Computing for FEA
2: High-Performance Parallel Computing for CFD
3: High-Performance Parametric Computing for FEA
4: High-Performance Parametric Computing for CFD

  9. 9. © 2014 ANSYS, Inc. July 11, 20149 Summary Design Impact HPC Parametric ANSYS provides a systematic approach to helping engineers to evaluate multiple product design ideas across a range of conditions and design parameters within a single environment, leading to enhanced product performance and integrity. Enhance product performance faster Ensure product integrity Increase development speed Click here to read the full story
  10. 10. © 2014 ANSYS, Inc. July 11, 201410 Application Example Benefit of HPC Parametric - Enhance Product Performance Faster Objective Develop quieter diesel engines faster. ANSYS Solution • Use ANSYS Workbench to set up the coupled simulation workflow for acoustic simulations. • Generate each model automatically using the parametric capabilities of ANSYS Workbench. • Use ANSYS HPC and ANSYS HPC Parametric Pack licensing to solve these computationally intensive acoustic simulations. Design Impact A cost-effective HPC parametric licensing solution was employed to simulate large-scale parametric frequency variations of engine components. Solution time for the acoustic simulations was reduced by 93 percent using ANSYS HPC technology. (Contributed by CADFEM Germany) Click here to read the full story
  11. 11. © 2014 ANSYS, Inc. July 11, 201411 Application Example Objective Ensure that high quality standards are met and reduce the number of prototype testing iterations. ANSYS Solution ANSYS DesignXplorer enabling Xerox engineers to perform numerous design of experiments (DOEs) to study the sensitivity of changes in key product variables such as part manufacturing tolerances, operating temperatures of the machines or differences in print media. Design Impact ANSYS has enabled Xerox engineers to quickly simulate many printer components, and to earlier filter out marginal designs in the design process. Over-designed components can be cost reduced and amount of product testing can be reduced as well. Benefit of HPC Parametric - Ensure Product Integrity Images courtesy of Xerox Corporation Click here to watch the video
  12. 12. © 2014 ANSYS, Inc. July 11, 201412 Application Example Objective Develop and deliver quieter brakes by evaluating numerous brake designs prior to building expensive and long lead-time prototypes. ANSYS Solution A parametric, persistent simulation data flow combines CAD, nonlinear contact, prestress-effects, and a complex modal analysis for fast and accurate brake squeal solutions. Design Impact The ability to automatically simulate many design points to quickly iterate to a brake design that meets noise requirements while delivering the best combination of performance, cost, weight, size and other factors. 13. 13. © 2014 ANSYS, Inc. July 11, 201413 Application Example Objective Develop best performing graphite electrodes faster. Real world testing extremely cost intensive, because of high temperature range of more than 3000° and long process time. ANSYS Solution • Parameter identification by virtual DOE helps to reduce the number of real-world tests. • Simultaneous computation reduces the overall time to get the needed answers from multiple weeks to less than one week. Design Impact The new parametric licensing provides the SGL Group a competitive advantage because they can meet customer requirements faster and more cost effectively. (Contributed by CADFEM Germany) Benefit of HPC Parametric - Increase Development Speed
