  1. 1. Low-Purine Diet What You Should Know Purine---A Chemical Found In Certain Foods---Produces Uric Acid When Broken Down In The Body. Uric Acid Is An Unused By-Product That The Kidneys Ordinarily Filter Out Of The Bloodstream And Discard In The Urine. A Buildup Of Uric Acid In The Body Can Lead To The Pain And Swelling Known As Gout, And Can Also Cause Kidney Stones. If You Have Either Of These Problems, Your Doctor May Recommend A Low-Purine Diet. What You Should Do Carefully Avoid All Foods On The High-Purine List Below. In Addition, Do Not Drink Alcohol Unless Your Doctor Gives The Ok. If You Are Overweight, You Should Also Cut Down On Calories And Eat Low-Fat Foods. High-Purine Foods (Avoid Completely.) 1. Anchovies 2. Beef Kidneys 3. Brains 4. Game Meats 5. Gravies 6. Herring 7. Liver 8. Mackerel 9. Meat Extracts 10. Sardines 11. Scallops 12. Sweetbreads Medium-Purine Foods (You May Eat 2 To 4 Choices Daily.) 1. Asparagus 2. Beans 3. Bouillon 4. Broth 5. Cauliflower 6. Consommé 7. Dried Beans, Peas, Lentils 8. Eel* 9. Eggs (No More Than 4 Per Week) 10. Fats Or Oils In Small Amounts 11. Fish 12. Fresh Beans And Peas 13. Meat (Beef, Lamb, Pork, Veal)* 14. Meat Soups, Broths, Gravies 15. Milk (Skim Or 1 Percent---No More Than 24 Ounces Per Day) 16. Mushrooms 17. Oats Or Oatmeal 18. Poultry (Chicken And Turkey)* 19. Shellfish (Crab And Lobster)*

Low-Purine Foods (Eat As Much As You Like.) 1. Breads And Cereals (Low-Fiber, White Flour, Or Refined Grain Types, Where Less Or No Yeast Is Used) 2. Coffee 3. Cream-Style Soups Made With Low-Fat Milk 4. Fruits And Juices 5. Gelatin 6. Low-Fat And Fat-Free Cheeses 7. Nuts, Peanut Butter (Limit If Trying To Lose Weight) 8. Soda Pop 9. Sugar, Syrup, Sweets In Small Amounts 10. Tea 11. Vegetables, Except Those Above 12. Vegetable Soups Without Meat Extract Or Broth I Am Sharing This Because I Am A Patient Of Hyperurecemia. Many Factors Contribute To Hyperuricemia, Including: Genetics, Insulin Resistance, Hypertension, Renal Insufficiency, Obesity, Diet, Use Of Diuretics, And Consumption Of Alcoholic Beverages.
