This is the film poster for control. I love this poster because of how simple it is but yet how striking it is at the same time. A simple black and white picture of the main character smoking a cigarette with a pink font makes the poster really stand out. I would think this type of portrait picture poster would work for our film poster.
This poster is for the film snatch. It is another poster with a great example of colour contrast. The white background added with the colour pictures of the main characters provides visual impact on the eye making the characters stand out more. Also the way the characters are standing and what they are wearing possibly provides in insight into what the film genre is, this representation is something that we could possibly incorporate into our production poster.
This is the poster for the film The Boat That Rocked. It features four men walking across a plank attached to a boat leading into the ocean. For me this poster is all about representation. For example at the top of the poster we are given the genre of the film which is comedy and the directors name, giving the audience an idea as to the story of the film. The title of the film is also present in the poster with an ocean and a boat both shown in the poster. This symbolism in conjunction with the story plot is something we could perhaps use in our poster.
This is the film poster for 28 Weeks Later. This film poster is for a sequel to the previous in the serious 28 Days Later. This is first referred to in the poster at the very top with the line “when days turn to weeks…” indicating that this is the sequel to the previous film. We are also given an insight to the nature of the film due to the striking red background which indicates danger. The woman on the poster is wearing a face mask also which is another indication to the nature of the film which could be possibly a horror or some biological horror?
This is the poster for the film In Bruges. It again shows the main characters of the film and the main actors are shown in print in the top left hand corner as well which could possibly also be to attract followers of those particular actors to watch this film. The poster also shows the setting of the film Bruge which is also included in the film title. We are also given the genre of the film firstly indicated through the guns in the characters hands and the print of the poster, especially the line “shoot first”. This poster could also demonstrate that this film is also a comedy with the ice cream in the front characters hand and the random image of a swan in the left hand background.
This is the poster for the film Pineapple Express. Again we are given the main actors at the forefront of the poster each holding guns. This represents the genre of the film which could be crime. Although the character at the back right is laughing so this could also indicate a form of comedy, possibly crime comedy. At the bottom of the picture we are given the phrase “from the guys who brought you superbad” this would be to indicate to the audience that this film is aimed at fans of the previous films which draws in the same audience.
This is the poster for the horror film Eden Lake. At the very top of the poster we are given a short snippet of a review of the film. We are given in this short review the genre of the film and a four star rating thus encouraging the audience to go and see the film. The poster shows a woman hiding behind a tree in a wood with 3 shadowed figures in the background to indicate possibly a chase type horror. The title of the film is also in a bold red font possibly indicating stress and horror.
This is the poster for the film This Is England. We are given in the poster awards and critics reviews to show the film is of a high pedigree, thus attracting an audience automatically to the film. We are also given the characters from the film standing in a line, from their clothing we can also identify the era of the film setting. We are also given the general setting of the film with the tower blocks in the background which we could possibly use in our poster to indicate to the audience the setting of our production.
This is the poster for the film Wedding Crashers. It features the 2 main characters at the fore front of the poster. The poster is simple with a white background with the tag line “lifes a party. Crash it”. The font is big with bold colours like red and black to draw the public into the poster. I like this poster and might take the simplicity of it and incorporate it into my poster design for my production.
The poster is for the British horror film The Descent. This poster is extremely well done and well thought through. The poster features an all black background with a group of six women forming the shape of a skull. This is a great idea because it features all the the main characters and the skull is an indication to the genre of the film which is a horror. This horror indication is also confirmed as there is a snippet of a review at the top saying “the best horror thriller since alien”. This also draws the audience in to see the film due to the critics positive review.
This is the poster for the remake of the original Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. It features all the main characters in the poster. All the children are at the top with the main character Willy Wonka at the bottom in a bigger size picture. The colour of the background shows the nature of the film, with vibrant and bright colours indicating a strange and fantasy type base to the film.
This is the poster for the horror/sci-fi film Cloverfield. The poster features the statue of liberty which is been damaged along with the background of a destroyed Manhattan. From this we can tell that this film must have an apocalyptic type theme. Along of that we can also tell that the film is going to be set in New York. The tagline “some thing has found us” also implies some sort of possible alien invasion type theme to the film. The poster uses a green background to compliment the iconic green tinge of the Statue of Liberty. This greeny background also compliments the Sci-Fi genre of the film well.
This is the film poster for the war film Saving Private Ryan. We can see four mens faces in the background in world war two army fatigue indicating that this film is set in world war two. We can also get a sense of the war film genre by the colours used, a sinister black orange and red background compliments the expressionless look on the soldiers faces which creates a great mood and type for the film. I would like to use perhaps a picture of the main characters face for my production poster.
This is the poster for the film The Matrix. On the poster it features the main characters with the main character standing at the forefront of the picture to symbolize his status. The costume of the characters tells us of the genre which is possibly a sci-fi action. This is also re enforced with the style of font which has a futuristic type looks to it.
This is the film poster for the comedy film Adventureland. The first thing that is striking on this poster is the reference at the top of the poster to say that this film is by the same director as the film Superbad. This indicates a marketing ploy to get the audience that came to see Superbad to now go and see the directors new film. We can also get a sense of the setting of the film which is an amusement park partly through the name but also the faded image of the ferris wheel in the background re enforces this.q
