A mockumentary film profiling a “shed inventor” and his creation.
This Mockumentary is only 2 minutes long but is useful to our film because for one it is a mockumentary which is the style of film which we are going for.
It was useful while watching this film to see what techniques we could take from this film to incorporate into ours.
For example camera work was mostly handheld
There is also an interviewers hand in the beginning scene of the film
We shall be taking these 2 aspects from this film and possibly applying them to our film to get the same mockumentary affect.
The Lunch Break This film follows a man who works in an office and when it comes to his lunch he takes a journey in a lift which ends up taking him to a beach to enjoy a champagne lunch. Although this film is not the genre or the type of story line we would like to follow, it does have some fantastic features we could incorporate into our film It has great camera angles and use of focus throughout, a good example is when the character goes to open a door in the second scene. The lighting used is very good, for example the first scene of the man is him sitting in a dimly lit office with a desk lamp light lighting him up focusing the audiences attention on him.
The Office Orphan This film tells the story of 2 office workers who hire a Victorian boy chimney sweep as their PA to save money. Although this film is a comedy and has lots of dialogue between the characters we can still draw good effects from this film to use in our own production The lighting in this film is very good. It provides a great contrast between the characters with a greater volume of light on the 2 office workers showing status. The camera work is also good with medium shots performed pretty much through out, but with a good tracking shot at the beginning which we could incorporate into our production.
Checkmate This film shows 2 men playing chess against each other on their laptops, but they cause more damage than they anticipate This film again is a comedy but like the other films I have chosen has good points that we could use in our production The main thing that stood out for me about this film is the amazing special effects used in this film It seems very naturalistic and it used to great effect Although we couldn’t use special effects on this scale due to technical capabilities we could use a small amount.
The Calling This film follows the story of a business man who one day on his way home from work swaps his life with a homeless persons This film features some great aspects that I would like to use in our production It has a great lighting, this is shown mainly through the films great contrast between light and dark This film also has great camera angles with long shots and close both in use and edited to great cinematic effect The Calling also has great mise-en-scene with only the characters only ever really being in shot throughout the film.
Closet Sufferer This film shows a man who has to face his fear of public toilet’s Although this film again is a comedy we can pick up certain aspects of this film that can enhance our production to get the exact specification and finished product that we are hoping for For example this film uses some great and unusual camera techniques One of these great and unusual camera techniques used in this production was the use of a fish eye lens which created a great effect We could possibly use this in our production to hopefully achieve the same affect that it did in this film
Nothing Happened This story follows 2 soldiers who are on watch duty, but nothing quite goes to plan. This film is of the Drama genre and has quite a harrowing and dark story line Although are film won’t dark in anyway we can draw from the story line the sense of mystery that envelops this piece We can also use some of the camera techniques used in this film, like the handheld camera The handheld camera effect enhances the viewing experience for the audience, for me giving a more naturalistic approach which is something we are aiming for in our mockumentary
