Reuther, a brother, 1tae at. that time president of Local No. 174 and is a C.I.O. West Side Detroit organizer. Roy Reuther, al.so a brother, was a C. I. 0. organizer at. Flint., Michigan. 1be Reuther brothers originally came fran West Virginia, at. which point their father was alleged to have been a labor organizer. As the result of this inrlu ence they became interested in social retom movements. ' In September, 1930, Victor and Walter Reuther 1 the eldest brothers, enrolled :1n Wayne University, 'Which they attended until 1933. It is alleged that they departed fran the United States for Russia at this time. Arter residing in Russia tor several months and while there, they engaged in studying Agitation Propaganda, which courses were allegedly given by the Soviet Union. 'lhe extent of their stay in Russia is not known, but upon their -return to the United States they enrolled in the.. Brookwood Labor College. Victor Reuther is alleged to have instituted the strike at the Xelsey-Hayes Wheel Company in Detroit in December, 1936. '!he tactics he used consisted in securing a position "'l'ith the aforementioned eanpany and shortly thereafter beginning the "sit-dmm strike". He was alleged to be the principal agitator in rioting at Flint, Michigan, and was arrested with six others for inciting a riot. Be was released on $300.00 bond.
