Transcript of "100G Super-Channel Transmission over 1,500 kilometers"

  1. 1. 100G Super-Channel Transmission over 1500 km of NZ-DSF with 10G Neighbors Mohammad Alfiad, Sorin Tibuleac
  2. 2. Direct-Detect 100Gb Solution Cost comparison • Port-density and spectral efficiency are factor 2.5 better for Metro 100G compared to 10G • Break-even for 100G Metro is at ~ 6-7 x 10G 10x10G Muxponder Cost per Bit 100G granularity 10G granularity 2x10G Transponder 10G Ports 2 © 2014 ADVA Optical Networking. 3. 3. Transmission Set-Up • 17-TWRS spans: • Average length and loss of 88km and 20dB respectively. • SSMF slope-matched DCF module every 4 spans. • EDFA only amplification. The combination of the fiber type and the type of the neighboring channels represents the worst case scenario in today’s networks for 100G channels 3 © 2014 ADVA Optical Networking. 4. 4. DWDM Spectrum • 80 WDM carriers spanning the full C-band. • • 4 x 28G Duobinary subcarriers 76 x 10G OOK. • 100G super channel in the 1537 Wavelength band. 4 © 2014 ADVA Optical Networking. All rights reserved. Confidential.
  5. 5. Conclusions • ADVA Optical Networking offers a low-cost, high-performance 100Gb/s solution: • This solution is based on using 4x28Gb/s Duobinary carriers with directdetection. • The high tolerance of this 100G solution to linear impairments has been confirmed • • • OSNR requirements that are similar to those of 100G coherent channels A dispersion tolerance of +500 ps/nm Negative penalty from the cascade of ROADMs • The transmission of a 4x28G super-channel is demonstrated over one of the most challenging link configurations for 100G channel upgrades: • • Transmission over 1500-km of TWRS fiber in the 1530nm regime. 76x10G OOK channels co-propagated with the 100G channel. Compared to the coherent 100G solution this solution trades off spectral-efficiency for lower cost, lower power consumption, lower latency and a significantly higher tolerance to nonlinear effects 5 © 2014 ADVA Optical Networking.
