The Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute (GWEI) has a vision: provide the imperiled children of India with a safe place where they will be housed and fed while they receive training to prepare them for a life outside the prison of poverty. GWEI is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt institution and all donations are tax deductible.
SPONSOR THE CHILDREN PROGRAM
In the Kolhapur district of India, 60,000 children live in extreme poverty and are forced into backbreaking work or begging.
That’s why, before she was 8 years old, Nikita and her sister roamed the streets of Kolhapur looking for food, hoping to find enough stale scraps to take home to their mother. Pavlavi’s family, desperate for money, sold her into servitude when she was only 9 years old. Sunil’s parents were too old to continue working in the brickyards, so at age 11, Sunil became the breadwinner of the family and took on the hard labor of transporting hundreds of pounds of bricks daily in the brickyards.
While you are reading this, thousands of children in Kolhapur, like Nikita, Pavlavi, and Sunil, are living in danger. They will receive no education or training for the future. They suffer the psychological, physical and social consequences of hard labor and harmful conditions. You can help rescue these children from the prison of poverty. Your gifts of any amount can help sponsor the children and give them the chance they deserve.
WHAT CAN BE DONE?
GWEI, in cooperation with a residential children’s center called Avani, is in our 2nd year of housing, feeding, and providing life-skills training for 50 of the imperiled children of Kolhapur, India. Working from M. K. Gandhi’s concept of Sarvodaya—compassion and welfare for all members of society—GWEI believes all children deserve a chance. For example, $28 a month or $336 a year will provide one child with all he or she needs.
