  • 2. Brigham Young University For my college I chose to attend Brigham Young University. Brigham Young University is a privately owned school. It is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). BYU was founded by an LDS prophet, President Brigham Young, in 1875. President Brigham Young (below) was the second prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, immediately following President Joseph Smith.
  • 3. Interview For my interview I interviewed Mr. les Waltman, a history teacher at Troy University. Mr. Waltman teaches American History and Western Civilization . An average teaching day for Mr. Waltman includes teaching a class, giving tests and grading papers. Mr. waltman attended BYU. For him to continue teaching he must show his transcripts and other documents of accreditation. Mr. Waltman taught Phillip Alfred who played Jim in the film To Kill a Mockingbird.

  • 8. Costs of College Four Year Degree It pays to be a Mormon. The total expenses for a non-LDS student is $74,240.00 for a four year degree. But the cost for a LDS student is only $57,080.00 the cost for food is $8560.00. The cost for housing is $27,360.00.
  • 9. Career Pre-service Training · The student teaching internship shall be full-time in the schools for a full semester which may include more than one classroom or grade level, with the experiences of the intern progressing to the full responsibilities of the teacher for at least 20 full days including at least 10 consecutive days. · For candidates who are seeking certification in two or more distinct teaching fields, an additional internship(s) shall be required (e.g., mathematics and biology). · For candidates who are seeking certification in two or more related fields (e.g., chemistry and physics), the internship may be divided between the two teaching fields. · For P-12 programs, the internship shall be divided between early childhood/elementary and middle/secondary grades. For early childhood programs, the internship shall include a pre-school or kindergarten placement unless substantial field experiences were completed at those levels.
  • 10. Scholarships for a Degree in History To be considered for scholarships a student should have an A- GPA and a score of 30 or higher on the ACT. BYU offers the following scholarships, grants and federal funding to help pay for the cost of tuition: BYU undergraduate BYU Departmental scholarship Off-Campus Scholarship BYU loans Short Term Loans Academic Competitiveness Grants (ACG) SMART Grants Federal Stafford and parent PLUS Loans Pell Grants Work Study
  • 11. Teacher Certification Teaching certification for the State of Alabama requires that the applicant has a bachelors degree, completes an approved teachers preparation program, and passes the Alabama Prospective Teaching Program. The applicant must also pass a criminal background check. The certification is renewable every 5 years .
  • 12. Extra-Curricular Activities Extra-curricular activities include football, basketball, Food Science Club, Bonneville Section of IFT, IFT Annual Meeting, IFT College Bowl, Product Development Team, and the Undergraduate Research Paper Competition.
