2. ARCHITECTURE&CONSTRUCTION AGENCY
The Architecture&Construction Agency (ACA) has been
founded as a private company in 1993 with a separate department for
design of steel and reinforced concrete structures. During the last years
ACA took active part in the technological modernization of the cement
industry in Bulgaria.
Various customers and investors have chosen ACA to design
industrial and civil structures including unique industrial facilities. The
Agency is renowned for its quality design, strict dead lines keeping and
flexibility when design modifications do need to occur. The design
process is entirely computerized and uses up-to-date technology. ACA
design team has an expert level in using specialized software such as
ArchiCAD for architectural drawings, AutoCad for detailed and
workshop drawings, SAP2000 for static, dynamic and earthquake
analysis of structures.
When contracted ACA performs full engineering of industrial
facilities.

reconstruction of each particular project;

State Authorities
Workshop and detailed drawings, engineering calculations and
reports presented for approval by the customer and the State
Authorities including Independent Monitoring Agency;
m Author's Control during erection and construction including
preparation of 'Executive/As-Built' documentation with all
modifications occurred at site
m Additional services as preparation of an estimate based on the
design documentation, project construction time schedule,
project business plan, project coordination till plant start-up, etc.

Architecture&Construction Agency Ltd. (ACA) has been chosen by ItalCementi Group to
perform full engineering services on the Coal Mill Project in the Vulkan Cement Plant,
Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria. The total of 9 months design and construction duration time for the
project began in March 2000 and finished in December 2000 with installation start-up. The new
Coal Mill Facility is now used to supply Kilns 3&4 with grounded mixture of coal and coke
instead of the expensive natural gas.
ACA in cooperation with TAI (Italian engineering company that supplied basic design for the
project) and CTG (Engineering Department of ItalCementi Group that approved all drawings
during design) prepared and supplied the following documentation:
− civil works foundations (engineering calculations, reports and detailed drawings)
− steel supporting structures (engineering calculations, reports and detailed drawings)
− ducts, chutes, compensators (engineering calculations, reports and detailed drawings)
− coal dust silo (engineering calculations, reports and detailed drawings)
− steel structure covering the coal mill, cladding with corrugated steel sheets, stairways,
galleries for belt conveyors, service platforms, etc. (engineering calculations, reports and
detailed drawings)
− steel doors (detailed drawings)
− authorization of the electrical installation documentation (project drawings and reports
supplied by and in cooperation with the Italian Company Seit)
For this particular project ACA engineering team used software packages such as ArchiCad for
architectural drawings, AutoCad 2000 for detailed and workshop drawings, MATHCAD for
calculation reports, SAP 2000 for modeling and static, dynamic and earthquake engineering
calculations based on FEM, etc. The final documentation was supplied by ACA as a hard copy
and computer files.

5. ACA team of young and highly qualified Civil and Structural Engineers (all university graduates)
managed to supply in short terms an excellent Job on a unique for the Bulgarian Industry coal mm
instalfation. During the design development of the project substantial restrictions appeared due to
the fact that some new equipment had to be placed inside an old existing building increasing
heavily the job complexity. During the whole contract and duration of the project ACA engineers
provided reiable services in the field of the Industrial Civil and Structural engineering as well as
Workshop Detailing. All ItalCementi project requirements and deadlines were kept within narrow
limits ACA engineering department took full advantage of the modem IT and computer
Sology thus being able to send, receive and process massive number of computer drawings
per day. ACA easily achieved a high quality end product, which was initial compulsory
requirement by ItalCementi for granting the full engineering service contract. Personally was
very impressed by the professionalism of ACA engineers in their everyday contact with their
CTG, TAI and Seit colleagues. The result was cost effective coordination and quick approval of
drawings.

Architecture&Construction Agency Ltd. (ACA) received its first contract with Devnya
Cement in 1997 to perform engineering and structural services on the project 'Coal Mill
Facility for Kilns 5&6'. This facility in operation since 1999 supplies Kilns 5&6 with
grounded mixture of coal and coke instead of the expensive natural gas.
ACA in cooperation with Loesche GmbH (German manufacturer and supplier of the
coal mill unit) prepared and supplied the following documentation:
− civil works foundations (engineering calculations, reports and detailed drawings)
− steel supporting structures (engineering calculations, reports and detailed drawings)
− ducts, chutes, compensators (engineering calculations, reports and detailed drawings)
The next contracts awarded by Devnya Cement to ACA in cooperation with Christian
Pfeiffer (Austrian manufacturer and supplier of grinding equipment) were for
engineering services for the reconstruction of Cement Mills 3&2&1 with modification
from open to closed technological cycle (filters, separators and related equipment).
Cement Mill 3 project ended in 1998, Cement Mill 2 project ended in 1999 and Cement
Mill 1 project is planned for year 2002. ACA supplied workshop drawings for all
relevant steel supporting structures and service platforms.
In 2000 Christian Pfeiffer (supplier of the new equipment for Cement Mills 3&2&1)
together with ItalCementi Group contracted ACA to perform an earthquake analysis of
the existing cement mill building and to estimate the influence of the new structures and
loads on the building. A detailed model of the building was created. The earthquake
analysis proved that certain structural elements of the existing cement mill building
needed modification and reinforcement due to new substantially greater dead and service
loads. ACA engineering department prepared detailed drawings for the reinforcement.
The project was finished at the end of 2000.
For the contracts mentioned above ACA engineering team used software packages such
as ArchiCad for architectural drawings, AutoCad 2000 for detailed and workshop
drawings, MATHCAD for calculation reports, SAP 2000 for modeling and static,
dynamic and earthquake engineering calculations based on FEM, etc. The final

7. ACA team of young and highly qualified engineers (all university graduates) proved
their ability to offer in short terms high quality engineering solutions to the complex
demands for modernization and reconstruction in the Bulgarian cement industry in the
late 90's. During the design development of the projects supervised by me all
requirements and deadlines were kept within narrow limits.
The high quality end product that ACA persistently achieved would be a great advantage
to any organization especially if cost effective coordination and quick approval of

REFERENCE
Christian Pfeiffer started to work with Architecture&Construction
Agency in 1998 on the cement mill No. 3 modernization project located
at the Devnya Cement Plant, Varna, Bulgaria. The deadline for the
project was 6 months, a very short time for such reconstruction. The job
consisted of partial modification of the main structure of the cement mill
building and an addition of a new structure for our equipment. Based on
our technological flowsheet and preliminary drawings ACA engineering
team in short time managed to produce quality workshop and detailed
documentation for fabrication and erection purposes.
After the initial successful business relationship in 1998 during the
next two years Christian Pfeiffer and ACA managed to modernize and
reconstruct also Cement Mill No. 2 and part of Cement Mill No. 1.
Due to new and substantially greater dead and service loads on
the cement mill building an earthquake survey and structural
modification for strengthening of the existing building was necessary.
ACA received an order and its team accomplished the job in less than
three months. The final documentation consisted of a very detailed
earthquake analysis and workshop drawings for steel structure
modifications.
It was a pleasure for us to work with ACA young and ambitious
engineering team during the past three years. I would also recommend
ACA as a reliable partner for engineering services to any eventual investor in
the Bulgarian Industry or abroad.
