What is Linked Data?
• Linked Data is based on W3C´s Semantic Web specification
• It creates a „Web of Data“ (aka „LOD Cloud“) which serves as one
huge global database
• To retrieve data from the LOD Cloud self-describing APIs based on
RDF (Ressource Description Framework) and URIs can be used
• URIs and RDF are some of the basic layers of the Semantic Web
• Linked Data is a simple to use methodology to provide datasets via
the web and it is based on only four rules

Four simple rules to make the „Web of Data“ grow
• Use URIs as names for things
• Use HTTP URIs so that people can look up those names
• When someone looks up a URI, provide useful information
• Include links to other URIs, so that they can discover more things
