1. Is Memory Care a Good Solution?
On the day of return to my college my grandma got weepy and was having headaches. I am very close to
her, much more than my siblings and I guess I was feeling sad too. As I was about to leave the house and
get into the car, my grandma suddenly fainted and was lying unconscious by the front door. My father
immediately called the ambulance and my mother was sprinkling water on her face to wake her up. I
could not leave my family in this chaos and so I decided to stay back and take them to her doctor.
2. We got there and got her checked, the doctor said she had a blackout and at her age and the symptoms
she had suspected Alzheimer’s. Since dementia has no cures or medicine, you have to watch the patient
deteriorate as days go by. Some of the probable symptoms that grandma had are:
After much consultation and discussion with the doctor, we decided to shift her to a good memory loss
center in the vicinity. We were very apprehensive and began our memory care search.
By the end of the search, we finalized and decided to send her to the memory loss Whitman center. We
were impressed by the center and the facility and we felt that grandma would definitely be better and
improve in this center because:
The apartments are comfortable.
The dining is prepared according to the health and nutrition of the residents.
There are sufficient staffs that take care of the residents, assist them in their daily activities and
monitor their medication.
It also has the provision for family and personal doctor to visit the residents anytime.
It is activity rich that allows their residents to not feel alone and actively take part in it and
develop companionship with the other members.
So from my personal experience I can say that memory loss centers, although they might sound distant,
are very effective because it is better to put someone in the hands of expert care rather than watch the
loved one worsen with time.
