  2. 15. <ul><li>Nevertheless, we are here upon earth. Therefore this life is a means to attain that ultimate happiness which is GOD. </li></ul><ul><li>We conclude that there is here below a certain necessity to gain perfection which leads to the ultimate perfection. </li></ul>
  3. 16. <ul><li>Because of Original sin, man is wounded: </li></ul><ul><li>In the body: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Death & Suffering </li></ul></ul><ul><li>In the soul: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Ignorance, malice, weakness, concupiscence etc. </li></ul></ul>
  4. 17. <ul><li>Since the ultimate happiness is for man to possess, it follows of necessity that man must perfect himself in order to attain God, the ultimate happiness. </li></ul>
  5. 18. <ul><li>It follows that there must be subjection of the body,(11 passions), to the faculties of the soul (intellect & will). </li></ul>
  6. 19. <ul><li>Virtues of the intellect are: </li></ul><ul><li>WISDOM </li></ul><ul><li>SCIENCE </li></ul><ul><li>UNDERSTANDING </li></ul><ul><li>ART </li></ul><ul><li>PRUDENCE </li></ul><ul><li>Virtues of the Will are: </li></ul><ul><li>PRUDENCE </li></ul><ul><li>JUSTICE </li></ul><ul><li>FORTITUDE </li></ul><ul><li>TEMPERANCE </li></ul>VIRTUES
  7. 21. <ul><li>Question. 1. What is the chief end of man? </li></ul><ul><li>Answer . Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever. Here are two ends of life specified. 1. The glorifying of God. 2. The enjoying of God. </li></ul><ul><li>MAN DIES </li></ul><ul><li>MAN IS JUDGED </li></ul><ul><li>MAN GOES TO HEAVEN (HIS ETERNAL BEATITUDE) </li></ul><ul><li>OR HELL (HIS ETERNAL DAMNATION) </li></ul>
