    • The Greek fighting formation is called the Phalanx formation. They put their spear at their right and their shield at their left protecting the other person. They won many battles like the battle of Marathon.

    • The battle of Marathon was fought between the Greeks and the Persians. For every Greek soldier there were 4 Persian soldiers. First the two armies watched each other and then the Greeks made a surprise attack. The Greeks won the fight. Only 192 Greeks were killed. But the Persians lost 6400 soldiers.

    • At Thermopylae It was between the Spartans and the Persians. 300 Spartans held the entire army off Persia. The Spartans held them of for 3 days!

    • The battle of Platea was the last battle of the Persian war. The Greeks won and defeated the Persian invaders.

    • The battle of Leuktra was between the Thebans and the Spartans. The Spartans lost and no more Spartans were left.

    • By the mid 6th-century bc sea power was a major part of the warfare. The Greek navy was very powerful, especially the Athenians.

    • There were only 300 Greek ships
    • The Greeks attacked the Persians and won the battle
    • 350 Persian ships were lost. Only 50 Greek ships were lost
