Formative Assessment Strategies
Advertising's Effect on Self-Image Student Presentations
This project is geared towards the Junior and Senior classes as to prepare them for
college and the job market. Students will first be put into groups where they will pick an
"Agency Name," and role play as an advertising team. After they have their Agency
Name, students will work collaboratively to make a storyboard to serve as a model and
outline for their commercial. This will help students be more directed and efficient once
it comes time film, edit, and/or create their commercial using MovieMaker and/or
PowerPoint. Also, students will not be able film or work on their commercials until the
storyboards are done. Having the students hand in their storyboards at the end of Week
1 will give me time to review their work and see which direction they are going in and
who needs extra help. This will hopefully serve to motivate the students that have this
When it is time for students to begin working on their commercials, the first class
I will review with the students the basic principals and techniques in MovieMaker and
PowerPoint that will help them make an effective presentation. At which point I will
also remind them of the guidelines set forth in the grading rubric.
Once students have gathered all their necessary information, script for voice over
and/or actors, images, video, etc, then I will elaborate and review with them on special
effect and techniques in MovieMaker and PowerPoint. I want them to understand that
the most important aspect of their presentation is the information they will be sharing
with the class.
During this time, students will be given time in class to rehearse their
presentation, which will allow me to see and hear how they’re doing and offer feedback
while they’re working.
At the end of Week 2, students MUST submit their commercials to me before
they are to be shown in class. This way I can review content (images, music, etc.) to
make sure it is appropriate for class.
