  • 2. The relationship you have with your list is a critical part of successful email marketing. If you build a good rapport with the people on your list, youll beable to get much better results even if your list is considerably smaller than many other marketers. In this article, were going to look at some strategies for building a good relationship
  • 3. The first thing you need to remember is thatyour "list" is actually a bunch of real people. Its easy to start thinking of your list as a thing unto itself, especially with so many marketers talking about their lists. Dont fall into that trap. Always remember youre dealing with a bunch of individualpeople on that list, and write your emails as though youre speaking to one person.
  • 4. Another important thing to remember is why those people signed up for your list in the first place. Did they sign up on your blog, where you promised to send themhelpful tips and strategies in your niche? Or did they get added to a customer listautomatically when they bought something? The reason theyre on your list in the firstplace can have a bearing on how forgivingthey will be if you send them other things.
  • 5. Someone expecting to get helpful tips fromyou may not want to get a constant barrage of promotions. And someone who was put on a buyers list might not want to getanything except information very specific to what they bought.Putting some personality into your emails is another important factor in building a relationship. Dont try to act like someone else - just be yourself.

Youll connect strongly with somepeople, some will continue to read youremail even if they dont feel strongly oneway or the other and yes, youll probably rub some people the wrong way.Dont let that bother you. Its much better to build a list of people who feel aconnection with you - youll never be all things to all people.
  • 7. Treat your subscribers like you would treatsomeone you met in person. You probablywouldnt start trying to sell them somethingbefore you even got to know them, so whywould you do that to people on your email list?You might not make as much money in the short term by building theserelationships, but youll do far better in thelong run, when people stay on your list for months and years to come.
