THE COLOSSEUM OF ROMEThe Colosseum of Rome wasbuilt around 70AD, to entertainthe people of Rome (the mob)with spectacular blood sports.This circular, free standingstructure is built from concreteand stone spans 189 x 156metres.A tarpaulin or ‘Velarium’covered four tiers of seatingthat held more than 50,000spectators (ItalyGuides.It 2013)(Echomon 2012)

The Colosseum of RomeThe Colosseum was last usedfor gladiatorial fights in 435ADand animal hunts in 523AD.During the early medieval erathe structure operated as aworkshop, quarry, housing,prison, quarters for priests anda Christian shrine. Aurora BorealisEarly depictions of Aurora Borealiswere unearthed in Southern France30,000 years ago.The oldest documentation foundwas written approximately 2600 BCChina.Vikings and Ancient Romansbelieved the Northern Lights weresuperstitious and played a pivotalrole predicting outcomes of War.In 1716, Sir Edmund Halley madethe first scientific finding of thisphenomenon (Turunen, Manninen& Turunen 2013).History(Visit Finland 2007)

VICTORIA FALLSVictoria Falls is one of thelargest waterfalls in the world,and lies on the border betweenZambia and Zimbabwe inSouthern Africa.Victoria Falls spans more thanone mile wide and plummetsbetween 350 to 360 feet.In Zambia, the falls are knownby their ancient name Mosi -oa-Tunya, which translates as,“Smoke that Thunders” (Roberts2012).(Africa Safari 2012)

THE GREAT BARRIER REEFThe Great Barrier Reef is on theEast Coast of Australia andstretches over 2000kmsbetween the Western edge ofthe Pacific and theQueensland coast.In just one acre of ocean there isover 100 different types ofbeautiful coral.
