• Vibrio cholera
- comma shaped bacteria
• Discovered by John Snow.
• Gram negative bacteria.

5. The infected person has several symptoms which can be
characterized by:
• Dehydration
• Vomiting
• Sunken eyes
• Watery diarrhea
• Diarrhea has a "fishy" odor

• Contaminated food and
water.
• Enters through oral and
ejects through fecal
• Humans are the
reservoirs.
• Carriers: Housefly and
other insects

7. Diagnosis
•By collecting the stool samples.
•Dip stick test - positive
•Antibiotic resistance.

8. There are many preventive measures to overcome the
disease.
• Sterilization
- Use of disposable material.
•Sewage
- Treatment for the Sewage water.
• Water purification
- Boiling, Chlorination.
Prevention of Cholera

9. • Cleaning of clothing and bedding
• Properly cooked food and boiled water.
• Proper disposal of Excreta.
•Patients should be isolated.
Control Measures

10. • Continue eating of the hygienic food.
• Oral re-hydration salts.
• Use of antibiotics.
• If left untreated, cholera can kill quickly.
