  • Nice presentation. But I believe the narative for mHealth must change from provider-centric, to patient-centric, with the addition of patient tools in disease management. Statistics have shown that the majority of spending is on chronic illness. Yet, there are very few mHealth initiatives for patients with chronic illness. I suffered a brain injury and dev of post traumatic hydrocephalus in 1992, and have undergone 12 revisions to date, including, my 2012 shunt that has already been recalled. Yet, I designed & patented an mHealth diagnostic app in 1997, but could not get funding back then. I am now in dev of it as a mobile data app. But I am told text apps might also run this on std mobile phones, and allow use in rural areas & in dev countries. I already do consults & answer Qs from people affected by hydrocephalus all over the world. Can you imagine the impact if my app were available worldwide? The challenge, though, lies in the economics & admin of this. But, I think a consortium of these apps might collectely solve this dilemma.

  • @undefined Thanks for the comment, Wayne. I've just read (and bookmarked) your post. Very insightful and I think we're thinking along the same lines.

  • Too bad there was no narrative for the slides, although they were still helpful. I especially like the one showing how quickly the cost of genomic testing is falling - even faster than Moore's Law - because it relates to a similar presentation I gave on the Future of Health Care. I turned it into an article with embedded slides at the end, along with a long list of related reference links, including Steven's presentation. (See http://www.mhealthtalk.com/2013/07/moores-law-and-the-future-of-healthcare/)

I always find it helpful to share perspectives, and Steven's talk included tech solutions for infants that I don't tend to cover since I focus on seniors. Thanks for sharing.
