    • CircleHosting.net established by 3 teens. Edward Whitely (14), Carl Meredith (16), Ben Reyes(15)
    • CircleHosting had over 100+ current customers
    • Started with a Resellers account
    • Don’t just avoid web hosts run by teen. You’ll have to watch out for fly-by-night hosts run by “adults”.
  5. Story of 5,000 web hosts left scared
    • 2004 Donna Mercer (angelnetworkz.net)
    • Not a “Kiddy-Host”
    • Did not pay Managed.com $70,000 rental costs
    • Affected many web hosters small and mid-sized. Many reputable compaines. (Avoid at all costs)

    • Your “Bog” standard hosting package
    • Sites shared with many on one or more servers
    • Advantages: Low-Cost, Maintenance not needed
    • Disadvantages: No root access, reliability, overcrowding
  7. Types: Dedicated/Co-Lo
    • Renting your own server/
    • Advantages: Low cost to move into server
    • Disadvantages: Setup Costs for Colo, Site down? You fix it… (Unmanaged server)

    • Lower costs than a rented server
    • Great for development & testing

    • Watch out for “grid” hosts but are in fact clustered fail-over hosts (Media Temple’s 100GB space 1TB bandwith $20 pm)
    • Keep an eye out for 3Tera AppLogic Grid technology for web Apps
