Broadband Providers in the Dublin 15 Area
  • This is a newly established Event Management company who are currently in the process of setting up a home office for all their business requirements in Castleknock Dublin 15.
This company requires a broadband provider who can offer high speed broadband for a low cost.
There are currently two staff members who both need access to an internet connection at the same time via one computer and one laptop.
Both Staff members need to be able to send and receive emails to customers with medium sized attachments.

  • This company are also setting up a website so need to be able to update this regularly at all times this would require low contention rates also a constant internet connection.
The company will need to upload a number of photos to transfer onto their website.
The office will have a landline for telephone communication to customers.
The company also need to regularly download software packages in order to update their computer
    Greenwood Event Management Company
  • As this is a highly populated area with an excess of 91000 people Living in the Dublin 15 area there are many broadband options available to this company.
As the company are aware of the requirements needed from their broadband provider they can choose the provider that is right for their needs instead of choosing one because of limited choice.

    Broadband Providers available
  • In order to break down these four providers I will look at the:
Contention Ratio- This is the greatest number of people who could be using the bandwidth at the same time. The higher the contention ratio means broadband could be slower especially at peak times.
Download speed- The company need to be able to receive large documents at a moderate speed
Upload Speed- The company need to be able to upload documents and pictures (Send via e-mail)
    Cost- Monthly rate
Evaluation of 4 Providers which suit the companies requirements
  • Broadband Providers Selected
  • Landline ProviderEircom Packages
  • Package Selected to suit company requirements
    Provider: Eircom
    Package : Business Plus
    Monthly Fee: €65.00 +VAT
    Installation Fee: Free
    Download speed:12MB
    Upload speed: 1MB
    Contention Ratio:24/1
  • Package provides a free wireless modem – 2/3 laptops can pick up this signal
This product provides free WiFi access points in over 1,000 locations nationwide. This allows access outside of your office space. Once the broadband is set up you can sign up online.
    Free self-Install connection
Download speed of 12MB is suitable for receiving large documents at a moderate speed. Upload speed of 1MB is suitable for sending and receiving large emails with attachments.
The Contention Rate is average at 24:1 this may cause the broadband speed to be quite slow at peak times.
    Pro’s/Con’s to this Eircom package
  • Provider: 02
Package: 02 Business Bundle Plus Broadband
Monthly fee: €24.90 (12 month contract)
Modem Fee: €35 first 3 months, €70 thereafter
    Download Speed:7.6MB
    Upload Speed:7.6MB
    Contention Ratio: 24:1
    Mobile Provider
  • Inclusive Line Rental
Contention Rate of 24:1 is quite high for this business who require 24 hour internet access, it may be slower at peak times
    Need an active telephone line
In comparison to the Eircom Package O2 offer higher upload speeds but lower download speeds.
    Pro’s/Con’s to this O2 package
  • Wireless Provider
  • The package I would choose from this wireless provider would be Breeze 6MB plus as it has a low Contention Ratio of 12:1
    Unlimited download allowance
    Symmetric download and upload speeds
Does not utilise the phone bill
The main problem with this package for this company is the price as there is also a connection charge of €150
    Imagine Broadband
  • Satellite Provider
  • In comparison to the previous three packages the cost of this product is quite high.
The package I would choose from this range is Tooway Satellite Service Extra
    Satellite Provider
  • Sweden is reported to have Europe’s second fasted Broadband
Now providing 4G mobile services to increase speed and capacity
This company provides mobile, Internet and TV services
    Wireless Broadband
    TeliaSonera (Sweden)
