Introduction • Tanzania AIDSRelief operates in four out of 26 regions and have 420 PMTCT sites currently providing PMTCT services • With the existing sites; it is not cost-effective to staff each PMTCT site with a dedicated SI Staff • Most of the sites are in remote locations. • Solution: Needed a quick, effective , low tech solution that will allow for a some level of patient data automation to ensure the transmission of qualitative data within donor designated reporting requirements using the limited resources.

PMTCT Issues • Maintaining up to date data for HQ • Timely report submission • Data accuracy and quality • Timely update of patient level data • Sustainable, low maintenance solutions • Central data repository updatable from anywhere • Strengthening Referrals • Keeping Community Health Workers informed
  4. 4. SMS application for Reporting • Why SMS? – Familiar to users – No special software required for user handsets – Any handset can be used – SMS is available almost anywhere – Excellent solution for rural and resource challenged environments

New ANC clients this month 1188 ANC 02. Previously known to be HIV positive 17 ANC 03. Total number tasted 574 ANC 04. Number of new client had HIV test at ANC 277 ANC 05. Tested HIV-Positive 37 ANC 06. Post-test counseled for positive and negative 574 ANC 07. Number of partners tested for HIV 16 ANC 08. Tested HIV-Positive 4
  8. 8. SMS reporting – How? • SMS is received at in-country office on phone connected to server
  9. 9. SMS reporting – How? • Server performs DQ check against various rules and responds to sender, if data passes then it is integrated into database. If it fails then user is notified of the discrepancy and can immediately correct and resend.
