  • 2. 2 PROVIDE THE SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR DAY MAKE LISTENING FLEXIBLE; ALLOW AUDIENCES TO CONSUME PERFORMANCES ON THEIR TERMS DON’T NEED TO BE A MUSIC EXPERT From listening to the briefing, we came up with 3 main objectives for our idea.
  • 3. 3 “JUST WANT SOME CLASSICAL MUSIC ON IN THE BACKGROUND... “I LISTEN WHILE I’M DOING HOUSEWORK... Our audience feedback group told us they use Radio 3 while they do other activities and primarily using their phone.
  • 4. 4 RECOMMEND GREAT CLASSICAL MUSIC AT A TIME THAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU RADIO 3 Put simply - create an app or service which recommends great classical music at a time that’s right for you.
  • 5. 5 ACTIVITIES RADIO 3 A smartphone app would ask the audience which activities they typically do during the day. Activities which require a lot of movement and motion, or those which are quite and focused.
  • 6. 6 FEELING RADIO 3 Perhaps you’d like to be recommended music based around a mood or feeling.
  • 7. 7 WHEN DO YOU LISTEN? RADIO 3 Next, we’d like to find out when you listen during the day.
  • 8. 8 I PREFER... RADIO 3 Picking specific instruments or themes tells us more about what type of music you might like.
  • 9. 9 TASTE PROFILE RADIO 3 + = By making selections each user creates a taste profile which gives recommendations for music to listen now or be notified later.
  • 10. 10 RADIO 3 PUSH NOTIFICATIONS “Hey, it’s 1pm. Why not listen to some Mozart while you eat lunch?” “Hey, it’s time to listen to the Live afternoon Concert! ! Push notifications create opportunities to listen to new music found in the BBC Radio 3 archive.
  • 11. 11 RADIO 3 OVERVIEW > DEEP DIVE We want to present a simple interface for listening. Allowing more information and metadata to be revealed, allowing listeners to find out more.
  • 12. 12 RADIO 3 WASHING UP WITH NATIONAL ORCHESTRA OF WALES The taste profile would notify you about the right music to listen to matched up with your daily activities.
  • 13. 13 RADIO 3 TASTE PROFILE The taste profile would use a combination of human and machine learning. Using services like Echonest and Mechanical Turk to classify the catalogue.
  • 14. 14 FLEXIBILE MUSIC CONSUMPTION BUILT AROUND YOUR TASTES AND ROUTINE In Summary: MOBILE FIRST EXPERIENCE AN EASIER WAY INTO RADIO 3 PERFORMANCES We think this would be an interesting prototype to build - it could provide an easier way into Radio 3 performances for new users and has a chance to build a habit around listening.
