Helping local volunteers to make sense of some of the available tools at their disposal to gather an audience for their Festival and Events. This introductory presentation assumes no prior knowledge of Facebook, beyond possibly using Facebook personally.

This presentation was updated in mid-April 2013 to reflect the changes to the layout of the personal profile made by Facebook.

FACEBOOK TERMINOLOGY Profile Only people can have profiles Connect with friends – friends must accept „friendrequest‟ Can set privacy levels Page Businesses, non-profit organisations, etc People join by clicking „LIKE‟ on the page Updates then appear in fans news feed Groups Set up to share special interest Can be public or private

FACEBOOK TERMINOLOGY (2) Tagging Mentioning a friend or another page in a post or photoby adding their name/page name to your post.Accessed by adding the @ sign before their name, or bytyping their name and allowing FB to bring up therelevant person/page Mentioning other pages creates a post on their wall – sobe wary of too many which might be regarded by theother page as „spamming‟
