Providing Food for Children in Need in Our Community
In Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, there are 116,000 children who receive free or reduced-price lunches at school.
The Share Your Lunch campaign is committed to raising funds that will be used to provide food to these children during the summer months when school is out.
The economic climate continues to challenge low-income families, leaving them with a decision no parent should ever have to make:
rent or food?
Most choose the long-term consequences of poor nutrition over the short-term threat of homelessness.
The healthy food made available to children because of your participation in Share Your Lunch provides security and comfort to their entire families.
During the summer months, Second Harvest increases the provision of food to youth programs:
Boys and Girls Clubs
YMCAs
Bill Wilson Community Center
Food assistance programs that target children, such as pantries and the Family Harvest Program, also increase food distribution to make up for missed meals normally provided at school.
Share Your Lunch will generate the resources to help to feed an average of 66,000 low-income children each month.
The Food Bank will provide child-friendly, nutritious food such as tuna, 100% juice, and fresh produce.
