    • The stem helps to support the plant.

    • Plants make their own food in their leaves.
    • First , they absorb water and mineral salts through their roots. This is called xylem sap.
    • Then , the xylem sap moves through the stem until it reaches the leaves.
    • Finally , in the leaves, the xylem sap turns into food. We call this food phloem sap .
