  • 1. Role of the Animal Care Attendant Animal Care Attendants (ACAs) are vital members of the OAS team. The shelter could not function without ACAs. The role of the ACA is complex and includes many responsibilities including: Basic daily responsibilities: Cleaning and feeding all the animals at the shelter Monitoring for changes in health and informing medical staff of these Monitoring for changes in behavior Ensuring that basic housekeeping is done (laundry, dishes, trash removed, halls swept/mopped) Spot cleaning kennels Advanced tasks: Bathing dogs Inventory Medicating animals Vaccinating animals Evaluating cat behavior Felv/fiv testing cats Temperament testing small dogs Running doggy playgroups Socializing animals Helping ACOs at front counter
