What are moocs? – MOOC: MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE, IS AN ONLINE COURSE WHREBY AN INDIVIDUAL CAN HAVE AN UNLIMITED PARTICIPATION AND AN OPEN ACCESS VIA THE WEB – MOOCS OFFER FREE ONLINE COLLEGE COURSES, AND THEY ARE OPEN TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO JOIN – MOOCS CAN ALSO BE EXPLAINED AS “DISTANT LEARNING”
  • 4. History of moocs THE TERM ‘MOOC’ WAS COINED BY TWO INDIVIDUALS NAMELY: BRYAN ALEXANDER AND DAVE COMIER IN 2008. Jim Groom from The University of Mary Washington and Michael Branson Smith of York College, City University of New York, adopted this course structure and hosted their own MOOCs through several universities. THE FIRST MOOCs EMERGED FROM THE OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES MOVEMENT
  • 5. BENEFITS OF MOOCS • YOU ARE ABLE TO DO ALL THE COURSES THAT ARE AVAILABLE AT UNIVERSITIES, FROM ENGINEERING, COMPUTER SCIENCES, SOCIAL SCIENCES AND THE OTHERS • YOU CAN DO ALL THIS COURSES FOR FREE • MOOCS OFFER EVRYONE A RIGHT TO EDUCATION • PEOPLE WHO LACK FUNDS CAN GAIN A LOT FROM MOOCS
  • 6. DISADVANTAGES OF MOOCS • IN MOOCS, TEACHERS AND PROFESSORS DEAL WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF STUDENTS, SO THEY ARE UNABLE TO GIVE FEEDBACK ON TESTS AND ASSIGNMENTS • ONLY STUDENTS WHO ARE DEDICATED, USUALLY COMPLETE THIS COURSE
  • 7. The importance of moocs • MOOCs ARE ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE WHO HAS INTERNET ACCSESS AND THE COURSES THAT THEY PROVIDE ARE FOR FREE • PARTICIPANTS CAN LEARN CERTAIN IDEAS AND ATTITUDES FROM EACH OTHER • MOOCs PROVIDE A LIFELONG LEARNING
  • 8. Types of moocs • WE FIND TWO TYPES OF MOOCS: X-MOOC AND C- MOOC  X-MOOC-have developed out of the idea of OpenCourseWare and Open Educational Resources.  C- MOOCS- IS A MOOC DESIGNED TO CONNECT LEARNERS
  • 9. Critics about MOOCs  THERE IS A FEAR THAT MOOCS MIGHT REPLACE PROFESSORS WITH TECHNOLOGY  CONCERNS THAT THE SOCIAL AND PERSONAL ASPECTS OF LEARNING WILL BE LOST  CONCERNS ABOUT HIGH DROP-OUT RATES MOOCs HAVE EXPERIENCED
  • 10. MY FIELD OF INTEREST • MY FIELD OF INTEREST IS LIFE SCIENCES • LIFE SCIENCES IS ACTUALLY A VERY BIG DEAL IN THE WORLD- LIFE SCIENCES DEALS WIH EVERYTHING THAT DEALS WITH LIFE AND SCIENCES • MY FAVOURITE TOPIC IN LIFE SCIENCES IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS • DURING THE PROCESS OF PHOTOYNTHESIS, PLANT CELLS PRODUCE OXYGEN, WHICH IS THE GAS WE NEED TO LIVE • I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO PURSUE THIS TOPIC IN MY MOOC EXPERIENCE.
  • 11. IMAGES OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
  • 12. MY INTEREST • ANOTHER TOPIC THAT I MIGHT PURSUE IN MY MOOC EXPERIENCE IS DNA GENETICS • THE STUDY OF DNA GENETICS IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE,WE USE IT TO PREVENT GENETIC DISEASE AND WE USE IT IN COURT CASES
