  Oh Tejo you are so beautiful. You are so useful.
  
  The Tagus (Spanish Tajo and Portuguese Tejo, Latin Tagus; Ancient Greek Τάγος Tagos) is the longest river on the Iberian Peninsula. The river starts from Albarracin in Spain and ends at Lisbon in portugal where it merges with the Atlantic sea. It measures 1,038 kilometers in length. The Tagus is highly utilized for most of its course. Several dams and diversions supply drinking water to most of central Spain, including Madrid, and Portugal, while dozens of hydroelectric stations create power.
  
  The source of the Tagus is the Fuente de García, in the Albarracín mountains. The Albarracin mountains lie to the south and west of the Albarracin town in spain. Albarracín is known for its beauty and attracts many tourists. The main cities it passes through are Aranjuez, Toledo and Talavera de la Reina in Spain, and Abrantes, Santarém, Almada and Lisbon in Portugal.
  A major river, the Tagus is brought to mind in the songs and stories of the Portuguese. A popular fado song in Lisbon notes that while people get older, the Tagus remains young ('My hair getting white, the Tagus is always young').
  
  In India we consider river to be sacred. Ganga is one of the sacred rivers of Indian. The 2,510 km (1,560 mi) river rises in the western Himalayas in the Uttarakhand state of India, and drains into the Sunderbans delta in the Bay of Bengal. It is a holy river and worshiped as the goddess Ganga.
  
  The Ganges Basin with its fertile soil is instrumental to the agricultural economies of India and Bangladesh. The Ganges and its tributaries provide a perennial source of irrigation to a large area. Chief crops cultivated in the area include rice, sugarcane, lentils, oil seeds, potatoes, and wheat. Along the banks of the river, the presence of swamps and lakes provide a rich growing area for crops such as legumes, chillies, mustard, sesame, sugarcane, and jute. There are also many fishing opportunities to many along the river. Thus Ganga is also life giving river to people of India and Bangaladesh.
  
  Mother Ganga was Born out of sacred water from which the Lord Brahma washed the feet of Vamana Awatar Lord Vishnu. King Bhagirath pleased Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva to bring Mother Ganga to Earth so that sins of his ancestors can be washed away. Since then bathing in the River Ganga causes the remission of sins and facilitates the attainment of salvation. People travel from distant places to immerse the ashes of their kin in the waters of the Ganga. Further several holy places lie along its banks. During the Loy Krathong festival in Thailand, candlelit floats are released into waterways in honoring the Buddha and the goddess Ganga for good fortune and washing away sins.
  
  So much reverence to a river. I feel I will not be wrong if I consider River Tejo as brother of Mother Ganga. Both the Rivers are sacred to people living near to it. Both the rivers are highly useful and provides all necessary help to the human for living.
  
  However rivers has no existence if there is no Ocean. Every drop of water in river is a part of Ocean. The River owes its existence to process by which water evaporates from ocean, get collected in the form of water vapour in atmosphere and then comes down to earth by way of percipitation process.
  
  Thus the purpose of river is to travel down all the way to merge with the ocean, which is its source. Big River like Ganga and Tejo can also be called saint who has one pointed purpose in the life to merge with Ocean. The Rivers shows us the way how to live in this world while continuing our journey of merging with the Ocean called God. River provides water to everybody without any discrimation of good or bad. People of all religion, the sinner, the lower caste people all seek refuge and feel safe under the protected hand of these saints. River give only and does not expect anything in return. River remain undisturbed whether people laments him /her or praises him / her. River is free from desire, attachement and anger. If the River has desire and attachment it cannot reach the Ocean. It will have to stop its flow and stay at one place.
  
  Flowing like River and always keeping in mind that we have to merge with the almighty is the right way of living the life.
  
  Also ‘Tejo’ in Sanskrit means the lighted one.
