NARISSA KUNKUDATHARN 9B ORANGE HOUSE Design BriefThe brief of this unit is to design and create a night light which holds a solar unit, usingthe appropriate materials and to solve significant design challenges. A range ofmaterials will be available including Aluminum Sheet, wire, plastic tubes, mesh, coloredpaper and acrylic in a variety of colors. The design will be portable and stable. Thisdesign needs to be safe and the sunlight must be able to reach the solar cell. As well as,the product will be targeted to people who need a night light to sleep, i.e little kids, teens and sometimes older people. The emphasis will be placed on the following:Performance, quality of construction, material selection and aesthetics.Specifications Must be safe Must be made from 3 materials Must be able to reach the switch (i.e turn on and off) The solar sell must not be covered Sun light must be able to reach the solar cell Must be portable Must be stable and free standing Must appeal to both girls and boys (teens and kids) The product must be eye catchingGuiding Questions 1. What are the materials we could use?The materials we could use are aluminum sheet, wire, plastic tubes, mesh, screws andbolts, strings, colored paper and acrylic in a variety of colors. 2. How many lessons do we have to finish the night light? We have minimum of 8-10 lessons to finish the night light. 3. How big is the solar unit? The unit itself is 3 cm height, 6cm diameter and the circumference is 18.85. 4. Does the design have to be based on an object? No, it doesn’t, but it is good to have an influence on something. 5. What does “free standing mean”?Free standing is the ability to stand without a support.
