Hunt 2

 1. 1. HUNT
2. 2. Maddi Hunt was at her computer, doing something new to her. She was searching job listings. She sighed dramatically, surveying the foreign terms. Quickly, she clicked the a job fit for a slacker. Maddi needed something to keep herself occupied, while she attempted to complete her dreaded lifetime want that was keeping her from happiness.
3. 3. He was the reason she wanted to get it out of the way. Against her own intentions, she had fallen in love with Malcolm, but in order to be with him, she needed to complete the horrid thing, so she would never be inclined to cheat.
4. 4. Maddi tried to concentrate on simple tasks, and attempted to take care of herself, despite growing up being waited on hand and foot.
5. 5. Eventually, after spending a week catering to others as a lowly cashier, Maddi had enough. After all, she had more than enough money, it was hardly fitting to be doing the work of an entire staff.
6. 6. The next day, the butler came. Maddi was careful to change out of her work clothes in advance, her lacking job was beyond humiliating.
~-~-~
7. 7. “Malcolm! Sweetie! What are you doing here?” Maddi cried out hurriedly, she was due to work at any second.
“Since when do I need to call to see my girlfriend?” Malcolm replied tightly.
“Honey… Mal. Don’t be like this. I need to go to work now, that’s all.” Her boyfriend’s face softened, and he nodded in understanding, before walking away.
8. 8. Her “work” was DJing at a shady nightclub downtown. Though it still wasn’t high end, it sure beat sitting behind a register all day.
9. 9. And then there was her second job. She was racing to finish her lifetime want and needed to hurry up, before her genuine love got tired of waiting for her to commit.
~-~-~
10. 10. “Oh Gwen,” Kalia began, hugging her friend, “I cannot thank you and Rya enough for your help with the children. Are you sure?” Gwen smiled at her sincere attempt to get her to stay.
“Sorry Kal. There’s lots of things I need to finish…” She handed Kalia a slip of paper. “Give this to Quinn?” Kalia took the paper and nodded.
11. 11. “Bye Gwen…” Kalia trailed off, then quickly added, “You’ll come when the twins arrive, right?” Gwen smiled, she had told Kalia she was having twins a while ago.
“Count on it. Take care of yourself, and tell the octs I say bye.” Gwen had opted for the unexpectedly leaving while the kids were at school. She finished her email, and then hurried out to the car Rya was waiting in at the front of the house.
~-~-~
12. 12. Malcolm stood, staring at the maroon walls, beginning to rethink his seemingly flawless plan.
It had to work… If she really loved him…
13. 13. He plopped down easily in his old chair, and kept his tired eyes on the clock that hung easily above the mantle, waiting for the clock to strike three, and pronounce that Maddi was finally home from work and she- He paused and looked up again. 3:15…. Crap.
14. 14. He rushed over to phone that was waiting for him on the side table in the foyer. Malcolm dialed the familiar number, and held the cool phone up to his ear.
“Hello? Maddi? This is Malcolm Langr-, Err, Mal. Do you think you could pop over? Great.”
15. 15. “Maddi!” Malcolm called as he hurried to met her at the base of the steps. He gingerly took her delicate hand, and she giggled.
A good sign, he thought.
16. 16. Slowly, he lowered to his knees, and rehearsed move for him.
“Malcolm…” Maddi’s radiant smile was all he needed to continue.
“Maddilyn Hunt…” He began, slowly reaching into his pocket.
17. 17. The three carat diamond sparkled in the afternoon light as Maddi, speechless stared at the velvet box. This put a roadblock in her plans, but what else could she do but accept? She loved Mal, and a guy like him wouldn’t ask twice.
18. 18. She slid it onto her finger. A perfect fit. She knew that this was right.
“Of course Malcolm. I love you.” Maddi smiled at him. “But I’m keeping my last name.” She added, winking.
“Su-Sure…” Malcolm stood dazed.
19. 19. Maddi threw her arms around her new fiancé and smiled.
“When should the wedding be?” asked Malcolm.
“Umm, I’ll call you.” After my lifetime want is complete… She added silently.
20. 20. Two weeks later, Maddi approached her phone. She was platinum, just like the engagement band on her finger, and she was ready to get married to the man of her dreams.
21. 21. When Malcolm came, he was practically running up the pavement out of the taxi. They had agreed to live in Maddi’s mansion, rather than his.
22. 22. A small greenhouse had been set up, a safe house from the frozen landscape. There was no cake, no guests. Just two star-crossed lovers, and a wedding arch.
23. 23. They quickly said their vows, and exchanged rings. Maddi could finally be an honest woman, and start a family.
~-~-~
24. 24. They didn’t wait very long. Maddi was pregnant. The couple had decided on having only one or two children, which would be undecidedly spoiled by his or her doting parents.
~-~-~
25. 25. Malcolm was on the exercise machine when he heard Maddi cry out. He quickly untangled himself from the expensive machinery, and rushed into the living room…
26. 26. …Where he was handed his daughter, Vivienne. She was a sweet baby, and hardly ever cried. Her parents spent many hours with her, maybe trying to compensate, as their careers were taking off, and Vivie would not be able to spend as much time with them as she grew up.
27. 27. As a toddler, Vivienne had an interesting mixture of her father’s blonde hair, and her mother’s piercing, golden eyes. She wasn’t the cutest, but she was the apple of her parents eyes.
28. 28. She grew into her feature when she became a child, and she was more than excited to explore everything where ever she went, though she was a quiet child.
~-~-~
29. 29. “Now Vivienne, I am about to show you the wonders of shopping. When you grow up in a wealthy family such as ours, you can spend a lot of money, understand?” Vivienne nodded, taking in everything Maddi said. “Excellent. Always look for designer labels, and things that compliment your features.”
~-~-~
30. 30. After an excessive shopping spree, Vivie had finally found the perfect outfit, and even better, her mother had been pleased by her efforts and treated her to dinner at a restaurant downtown. Maddi had also informed her daughter that the next day, the headmaster of the local private school was coming to see if Vivienne would make a good addition to their establishment.
31. 31. When headmaster Vince arrived, Maddi turned on the charm, and impressed him with their magnificent home. She sent the butler home early, and cooked lobster in an effort to impress. Needless to say, Vivienne was to start private school on the coming Monday.
32. 32. “Thank you Daddy,” Vivienne said in her quiet, careful voice, “I love you.” Malcolm smiled and hugged his daughter goodnight.
“I love you too Vivie.” He grabbed her glass off the counter and carried her to bed.
~-~-~
33. 33. “Pleasure to have you renting Miss…” The landlady trailed off.
“De Lune. Lucinda De Lune.” She smiled slightly and wandered inside.
34. 34. Just for the record… BLUE RINGS!
