  • 2. Childhood <ul><li>Born July 30, 1863 </li></ul><ul><li>He constructed his first steam engine in 1878 at age 15. </li></ul><ul><li>Was known around neighborhood as “The boy who fixed watches”. </li></ul>
  • 3. Career <ul><li>First working gasoline engine created in 1893. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1896 he completed his first horseless carriage, the “Quadricylce”. </li></ul><ul><li>One year after his marriage to Clara Bryant, Ford becomes the chief engineer at the main Detroit Edison Company Plant. </li></ul>

Ford Motor Company <ul><li>Founded June 16, 1903 </li></ul><ul><li>Ford Company was just one out of 15 car manufacturers in Michigan at the time. </li></ul><ul><li>The goal for the Ford Motor Company was to make an affordable, sturdy car for the average American. </li></ul><ul><li>The first car produced by Ford was the Model A. </li></ul>
  • 5. Model T <ul><li>In 1908, the production of the Model T finally began. </li></ul><ul><li>Selling price was $850 each. </li></ul><ul><li>This car soon became popular. Ford found that he was unable to meet the enormous demand for his cars. </li></ul>
  • 6. The Assembly Line <ul><li>Assembly line allowed Ford’s workers to perform the same task repeatedly on multiple vehicles that passed by. </li></ul><ul><li>Ford was the first to use the assembly line outside of slaughterhouses. </li></ul><ul><li>The assembly line lowered Ford’s cost so much that he reduced the Model T’s price to $260. </li></ul>
  • 7. Ending His Career <ul><li>By 1927 the Model T had ended production. Between 1908 to 1927 over 15,000,000 Model T’s were sold. It was the car which “put America on wheels.” </li></ul><ul><li>In 1938 Ford suffered a stroke though it didn’t put him out of retirement. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1945 he turned over his company to his grandson and at the age of 83 Henry Ford passed away. </li></ul>
