This document provides guidelines for writing a final paper, including required sections (title page, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, references), formatting instructions, and content for each section. The results section should include participant numbers, means, and standard deviations in the first paragraph and correlation coefficients, coefficients of determination, and significance levels in the second paragraph. The discussion section should relate results back to the original hypothesis, discuss limitations, and recommend future research. The deadline is September 22 and late papers or soft copies will not be accepted. SPSS output should also be emailed.
2. YOUR PAPER SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS: TITLE PAGE CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION CHAPTER II: METHODOLOGY CHAPTER III: RESULTS CHAPTER IV: DISCUSSION REFERENCE PAGE APPENDIX (OPTIONAL)
3. FORMAT FOR THE TITLE PAGE Miriam College Loyola Heights, Quezon City TITLE Presented to: Mrs. Olivia P. Carandang Submitted by: In partial fulfillment of the course requirements in: PY 102.2: Psychological Statistics
4. WRITING THE RESULTS Provide the number of participants, mean and standard deviation in the first paragraph of your results. In the second paragraph, include the correlation coefficient, coefficient of determination and significance level. Explain whether the results are significant or not.
5. SAMPLE PARAGRAPHS FOR CHAPTER 3 (Taken from Gravetter & Wallnau, 2009) Children who viewed the violent cartoon displayed more aggressive responses (M=12.45, SD=3.7) than those who viewed the control cartoon (M=4.22, SD= 1.04). [Taken from p. 126]. A correlation for the data revealed that amount of education and annual income were significantly related, r=+.65, n=30, p<.01, two tails. [Taken from p. 539]. *If the exact significance level is given, write it down (e.g. p=.017).
6. WRITING THE DISCUSSION In writing the discussion, you must first go back to the hypothesis you wrote in chapter 1. Were your results consistent with your hypothesis? Explain why they may or may not have been consistent with the hypothesis. What are the limitations of your study? (e.g. Would you have obtained significant results if your number of participants is larger?) What will you recommend to future researchers who will be interested in your topic?
7. Other reminders: Follow the APA format in writing the references. Provide a section for the appendix if you plan to include a sample of your survey questions or a chart/table of the instruments you used. Deadline for submission of the final paper is on September 22, 2010. You may submit earlier than the deadline BUT LATE PAPERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. FINAL PAPERS THAT ARE SENT THROUGH EMAIL OR ANY SOFT COPY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
8. Once you’re done computing for the results using SPSS, save the SPSS output in your desktop then email it to sparkyparkour@gmail.com. Once you’ve emailed your output, delete your file from the desktop.
