Construction of contents page Construction of contents page Presentation Transcript

    • CONTENTS PAGECONSTRUCTION
    • The programmes I will be using:Adobe Photoshop CS3- I will be using thisprogramme to edit images.InDesign- I will be creating my magazine here.
    • FLAT PLAN FOR CONTENTS… ISSUE NUMBER DATE CONTENTS WEBITE FOR MAGAZINE FEATURES HEADING FOR FEATURE EXPLANATORY COMMENT HEADING FOR FEATURE EXPLANATORY MAIN IMAGE COMMENT HEADING FOR FEATURE EXPLANATORY COMMENT HEADING FOR FEATURE EXPLANATORY COMMENTThis is the layout I will be following for the PAGE NUMBERcontents page of my magazine by having thefeatures and one side and the picture on theother
    • I have applied a blackbackground to mycontents page as I feelthe typography I willuse will stand out wellon this keeping myaudience interested. Also using a blackbackground is acontinuity of the colourscheme of my frontpage preventing thecontents page and frontcover looking like theyare from two differentmagazines.
    • I purposely madethe word contentslarge to allow theaudience to beeasily aware ofwhat this page isabout. Above the Issue number andcontents I have date.added the Issuenumber and datebasic butimportantconventions whichkeep the audienceinformed. I feelvarying the coloursof the contentstitle, issue numberand date hasenhanced the basicappearance of mymagazine.
    • I added a website on my magazineusing the Gills Sans MT font. Awebsite will allow me to widen mytarget audience as people will beable to access content from mymagazine through the internet.
    • I continued with the Gills Sans Ultra Bold text as I felt it looked simple but effective. Also itmade it easier to stick to my house style. Gills Sans Ultra Bold also seems to be a font whichdoes have the cool aspect and feel due to the way it looks. Although the font for thecontents text remained the same I changed the colours to cause my magazine to look morediverse. I felt adding the red outer glow to the word contents caused it to look moreprofessional and improved the basic appearance. As you can see here I have given theword features a gold outer glow, I chose gold because I felt it gave out the message that thearticles were like gold causing aspirers to maybe want to go on and read them. I added thegold outer glow within InDesign.
    • As you can see here I have kept my page very simple sticking to my house style and usingminimal colours which has allowed me to keep a constant look through out. For thefeatures I wanted to continue with this simplicity therefore had the headings for myfeatures in bold and the explanatory comments in the same font but in lower caseletters and using a smaller size and changing the colour of the text. I tried to keep theheadings and explanatory comment short and snappy so the reader would be enticed togo and see what is inside my magazine. I was first going to use a red outer glow and goldfont for the headings of the features however I felt that the white and red were a goodcombination and actually looked quite effective. For a second opinion I asked my targetaudience what they thought and they agreed with me.
    • I tried to layout thefeatures in an arch sortof way so that mypicture would fitperfectly. As you can seeI have tried to stick tothis as I have caused thebottom feature to bequite long allowing meto fullfil this layout.
    • IMAGE ON CONTENTS PAGE…The image I have selected for my contents page is an image of the star who is on both myfront cover and double page spread. On both the double page spread and front cover Ihave tried to portray her in the manner of a hip hop star through her poses and facialexpressions by having them looking quite serious. Therefore on this page I wanted to allowthe audience to see a different side to her by having her smiling; however I still tried tokeep with the conventions of a hip hop stat through her body language by making hercross her arms as it gives off the “not bothered”, relaxed persona hip hop stars portray. Iedited the main image within Photoshop. Erasing the background and getting rid of anyflaws using the clone tool. Having erased the background I again feathered my image (like Idid on the front cover) to cause it to blend in well on my background and give it asmoother finish. I have tried to show a different side to my model by having her smiling. I have tried to copy this byAs you can see here both the main images making my star look quiteportray the star in a serious way serious here.
    • EDITING MY IMAGE… First of all I removed the background using the magic wand and quick selection tool on Photoshop. Continued on next slide…
    • I then selectinversed the imageand feathered it togive it a smootherfinish so it wouldblend in to thebackground. Finally I placed it on the InDesign.
    • As you can see here my picture hasfitted quite nicely in to the space Ihave provided for it, also it has leftvery little space.
    • Although my mainimage had leftvery little space Istill felt that Ineeded to dosomething aboutthe space that hadbeen lefttherefore Idecided to createa quote relating tothe star on thecontents of themagazine. I leftthe quote blackand gave it a goldouter glow, I feltthe goldemphasised thispersons wealthand power.
