This is our presentation which was put up on the interactive white board to give visual images for our audience. We only used some text in the actual powerpoint presentation that was put up because we wanted to say different things and not repeat the text we had put up; we wanted to make the presentation more professional.

Music Video Analysis Presentation

  1. 1. Kings of Leon Background Information Kings of Leon is an American rock band that formed in Nashville, Tennessee, United States in 1999, consisting of brothers Anthony Caleb Followill, Ivan Nathan Followill and Michael Jared Followill, with their cousin Cameron Matthew Followill. They roamed the Southern States, spreading the gospel whilst living out of a car. They played the blues, copying heroes like the Allman Brothers, with their long hair, beards and retro clothing.
  2. 2. Music and Genre They preach a blend of raw country blues and rock ‘n’ roll, informed by the music of The Band, Neil Young and Bob Dylan. “We sound like stuff that comes from way before our time because that’s where most of our influences come from,” says Jared Followill, the youngest brother, at 16, and bass player. The single ‘Sex On Fire’ which was released in 2008 from their fourth studio album ‘Only By Night’ has received mostly positive reviews. “A truly stirring single that will be a definite highlight on their winter arena tour.”
  3. 3. Lyrics Soft lips are open Knuckles are pale You Your sex is on fire Lay where you're laying You Feels like you're dying Your sex is on fire Don't make a sound You're dying I know they're watching Consumed They're watching With what's to transpire You And you All the commotion Your sex is on fire Consumed Your sex is on fire The kiddie-like play With what's to transpire Consumed Has people talking Talking With what's to transpire Hot as a fever You Rattling bones Your sex is on fire I can just taste it Taste it The dark of the alley The break of the day If it's not forever The head while I'm driving If it's just tonight I'm driving Oh, it's still the greatest The greatest Soft lips are open Knuckles are pale The greatest Feels like you're dying You're dying
  4. 4. Mise en Scene  The green cloud ties in with the lyrics hot as fever and fits in with the scenes of him struggling while the other band members hold him down and they dunk their heads into the water.  In the video there are a few seconds where computer animation is used, the green cloud that the main singer appears to cough out is digitally inserted after recording.  One of the band members is wearing a normal shirt but in this case, the collar is stuck up and open which reinforces the idea they are their own people. The costumes also gives the appearance that all of the members are creative and free minded artists.
  5. 5. Camera Angles  The variety of camera angles used in the videos vary throughout , towards the start of the video it is mostly close ups especially on their faces to show their expressions  As we reach the second minute of the video we see a low angle shot on the main singer, which then changes to a midshot of the guitar player which then in turn zooms in towards the drummer.  The camera focusing on it blowing across the floor shows how this chaotic feeling is all around them, this is then supported by the midshot of the band members
  6. 6. Editing Cross shots which match the beats of the drum Change in sound levels Editing of the video is corresponding to the lyrics and sound of the song Use of slow motion Scenes are edited to match music
  7. 7. Narrative and Themes •Contains themes of death, pain and • Performance and Narrative Music being overcome by darkness video •Man singing and playing •Smoke coming out from the man guitar, accompanied by his other band members •Maybe a release of a bad spirit or darkness
