The Trojan War

  2. 2. <ul><li>The Trojan War is one of the most important events in Greek mythology. </li></ul><ul><li>The ten year war came around after Paris of Troy stole the wife of Menelaus, the king of Sparta. </li></ul><ul><li>During this war, the Achaeans battled the city of Troy. </li></ul>

  4. 4. <ul><li>The Trojan War started because of a feud between three goddesses: Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite. </li></ul><ul><li>The goddess of strife and discord, Eris, gave them a golden apple that was marked to be “for the fairest”. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>The goddesses went to Paris, the king of Troy, who judged Aphrodite as the fairest. </li></ul><ul><li>Because of this, Aphrodite made Helen fall in love with Paris and he took her back to Troy. </li></ul><ul><li>Since Agamemnon was Menelaus’ brother, he led his Achaean troops to attack Troy. </li></ul>

The Trojan Horse <ul><li>The walls of Troy were very strong, so the Achaeans developed a master plan to overcome this obstacle. </li></ul><ul><li>Odysseus had a large, hollow, wooden horse built. </li></ul><ul><li>He and some of his Greek warriors stayed inside while the rest of them left to deceive the Trojans. </li></ul><ul><li>Sinon pretended to be angry and told the Trojans he was left behind and that the horse was safe and would bring luck. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Trojan Horse Cont… <ul><li>Trojans celebrated their “victory” and rolled in the horse. </li></ul><ul><li>After most Trojans were asleep or drunk, Sinon let out the warriors who slaughtered the Trojans. </li></ul>

  9. 9. <ul><li>The conquering of Troy with the Trojan Horse is believed to be what ended the Trojan war. </li></ul>
  10. 10. <ul><li>The Trojan War is a historical event that happened in ancient Greece. </li></ul><ul><li>However, some people today believe that the war and even the city of Troy did not exist. </li></ul>
